The VIS research group operates in the field of vibration insulation; in this context, methodologies for theoretical and experimental analysis are developed for various types of applications. For experimental studies, a test rig has been developed for tests with constant compression and variable shear. The test rig is particularly suitable to characterize:
- deformable devices with hysteretic behavior that provide a restoring force that not only depends on the instantaneous deformation but also by its history;
- sliding and rolling devices whose behavior depends on friction characteristics.
The effectiveness of the insulators is evaluated by means of vibrating shaking tables.
The research, thanks to funded projects, involves:
- development of test rigs for isolators characterizations;
- seismic isolation of lightweight structures with magnetorheological rubber insulators (the research project is funded by the University Federico II);
- vibration isolation of modifiable inertia equipments installed on vehicles;
- air springs subject to shear forces;
- squeeze film dampers characterizations;
- magneto rheological dampers.
