Federico II team at CFA Research Challenge 2020
A team of Federico II students is participating in the CFA Research Challenge, the finance competition organized by CFA Institute, in which the world's top universities take part each year.
Federico students led by CFA mentor Giuliano Palumbo and Giovanni Walter Puopolo, professor of Political Economy, will participate in the 2020 edition along with eight teams from Università Cattolica di Milano, Politecnico di Milano, Università Ca' Foscari, Università Bocconi, Università di Pavia, Libera Università di Bolzano, Università Politecnica delle Marche and Università Cattaneo LIUC.
Each team, having the merit expertise of a CFA mentor and professional and FactSet analytical and financial systems, is tasked with analyzing a company listed on the Italian Stock Exchange.
This year's subject of study is Ferrari, which was recently confirmed as the world's strongest brand for the second year in a row, according to Brand Finance, a symbol of Italian exclusivity and excellence globally. The automaker was founded in 1947 in Maranello by Enzo Ferrari; it has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2015 and on the Italian Stock Exchange since 2016.
Starting with a discussion session held directly at the Maranello headquarters with representatives of Ferrari's Finance Team, the competing students will have to write an "Initial Coverage" report and submit their work in English by Feb. 16. They will then be judged by two separate panels of finance professionals, including analysts, portfolio managers and investment managers.
According to FactSet and estimates data from analysts representing 21 brokers covering Ferrari stock, the current average Target Price is EUR 162.30 (BUY 62%, HOLD 29%, SELL10%), 6.8% higher than the current price of EUR 152.00.
Considering the standards arranged by CFA Institute, the competition is held at three levels. The first national stage, which ends with the victory of the best Italian team, will be followed by the regional and global stages.
The winning team of the Italian final-which will be held on Tuesday, March 3, in Milan at PwC Italy's offices-will have the opportunity to participate in the EMEA regional final in Jordan on April 1-2. The global final will be held in New York, April 22, with the finalist teams from Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas.
