The fifth International Symposium on the Socioeconomic Impacts of High-Speed Rail Systems will be held on September 9 and 10, 2025. The event, after the positive feedback from the previous four editions, is once again supported by the International Union of Railways (Union Internationale des Chemins de fer - UIC) based in Paris.

The key word of the Symposium is "interdisciplinarity," and this feature allows engineers, economists, territorialists, sociologists, and others to feel interest in the topic addressed.

The Symposium will include an opening session that, after a welcome by the Director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, will give voice to members of the UIC, the President of the High-Speed Rail Netherlands Foundation, the Director of External Affairs at the California High Speed Rail Authority and the Deputy Chief of Cabinet in Transport and Tourism for the Greek Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas, at the European Commission, who will give their input from their experience in the field.

The scientific program consists of 7 sessions. Sessions 1 and 2 deal with the competition and integration of high-speed rail systems with other modes of transport. Sessions 3, 4 and 5 deal with the impacts of High Speed Rail on the territory. Sessions 6 and 7 address investments in High Speed Rail.

Two Best Paper Awards are scheduled to be presented, one sponsored by the Asian Development Bank Institute and the other by the Italian Society of Transport and Logistics Economics (SIET).

Link to the Symposium, registration for which is free of charge, will provide a link to the Team channel.
