The 13th edition of the Gerard Boulvert International Romanist Award has concluded.
Held in Budapest at the end of August 2025, during the opening of the 78th congress of SIHDA (Société Internationale Fernand De Visscher pour l'Histoire des Droits de l'Antiquité), the 13th edition of the Gerard Boulvert International Romanist Prize, which rewards the best monographic first works in Roman law and the rights of antiquity, was named in memory of one of the most brilliant French Romanists of the 20th century.
The prize, promoted and supported by the Interuniversity Boulvert Consortium, which is based at the Federico IIDepartment of Law and chaired by Professor Carla Masi Doria, was created in 1987 at the instigation of Professor Luigi Labruna, emeritus of the Federico II, who passed away in July of this year, leaving a great void in the international scholarly community.
The Prize (along with six other awards linked to it) is aimed at enhancing the work of young scholars who, in their first monographic contribution, have been able to deal with originality, rigor and passion with a subject that is as fascinating as it is complex and certainly not simple, and at the same time wants to be an acknowledgement of the courage to begin, the effort to identify a method, the difficulties in analyzing the sources, and - above all - the ability to dialogue with a legal heritage that, although ancient, remains ever alive.
Thirty-three works in the competition, from 13 different countries, European and non-European: Austria, Belgium, Chile, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom (England and Scotland), Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey. The International Jury, composed of Professors: Emmanuelle Chevreau, Maria Floriana Cursi, Marita Giménez-Candela, Éva Jakab, Carla Masi Doria, Thomas A.J. McGinn, Pascal Pichonnaz, J. Michael Rainer, Martin Schermaier, unanimously resolved to award:
