Luca

He is Luca Borrelli, a veterinarian, RTDa researcher at the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production of theUniversity of Naples Federico II, the Federiciano awarded at the 47th Congress of the Italian Society of Microbiology - SIM.

"Insect diet modulates gut microbiota, SCFAs production and satiety-related hormone in laying hens," is the title of the research awarded thanks to the exposition of interesting and original data and relevant results related to the impact of diet on the gut microbiota and associated metabolomic parameters especially along the microbiota-gut-brain axis.

During the last day, scientific committees evaluated posters from four sessions: Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology, Microorganism-host relationships, and Virology.

Of particular interest appeared to be the potential spin-offs in the medical field as well. The research, coordinated by Alessandro Fioretti, a Federico II professor of infectious diseases of domestic animals, stems from close collaboration with other departments of the Federico II University such as Biology, Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine, and the Department of Pharmacy, all of which are active in the Task Force for Microbiome Studies. Luca Borrelli with this research ranked first by winning the first prize funded by "MDPI" - Molecular Diversity Preservation International and Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute.
