Antonio Pio is the first graduate student in Quantum Science and Engineering.
On July 16, 2025, with a thesis in the area of hardware of a superconducting platform quantum computer, entitled 'Characterization and simulation of superconducting oscillator dynamics toward quantum error correction,' the young Federiciano completed his master's degree.
Rapporteur was Professor Francesco Tafuri, co-reporters Davide Massaroti and Pasquale Mastrovito.
The master's degree program in Quantum Science and Engineering aims to train experts in quantum science and technology. It is an international master's degree entirely delivered in English and with an important practical experimental component that can be in perspective carried out in part at international companies operating in the field.
The training path envisaged in this proposal is designed to include in the characterizing component a balanced mix of physics skills, in particular quantum mechanics, physics of quantum, material or photonic systems, and quantum systems useful for applications in quantum technologies, and skills from computer science and information engineering, such as communication and network theory and technologies, electronic and electromagnetic field technologies. It is a graduate project involving expertise and faculty distributed mainly between the E.Pancini Department of Physics and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
