As part of the Ethnomusicology course, three lecture-concerts to explore the dialogue between music inspired by oral traditions and new artistic visions. First meeting on April 21
Professor Simona Frasca's Ethnomusicology course at the University of Naples Federico II, in collaboration with the web magazine BlogFoolk, presents "Traditions and Regenerations," a series of three lecture-concerts aimed at students and anyone interested in the transformation processes of oral tradition musics.
All meetings will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the DSU-Department of Humanities, in Music Room A3, 33 Marina Street.
The initiative was created with the aim of investigating the living and dynamic relationship between contemporary musicians and popular repertoires, highlighting how current artistic practices can reinterpret, renew and regenerate musical traditions. Through three meetings that combine theoretical reflection and live performance, the project offers a space for direct confrontation with artists who, starting from origins rooted in Southern Italy, have developed personal and innovative languages.
BlogFoolk is an online publication, founded by Salvatore Esposito (editorial director), that serves as a compass in the vast ocean of traditional, folk, world, jazz and singer-songwriter music. It is the ideal meeting point for those who want to find their way among sounds and stories of different cultures, far from the more obvious and mainstream circuits. BlogFoolk will be represented by Ciro De Rosa, editor in chief of the magazine, who in academia and journalism has been crossing cultural analysis with the study of world musics for many decades.
The program consists of three appointments:
- Tuesday, April 21 - Ra di Spina Vocations, a contemporary perspective of oral tradition repertoires
- Tuesday, April 28 - Davide Ambrogio Rewriting, reimagining, recomposing the tradition
- Tuesday, May 5 - Luca Rossi & Michele Signore Holiday rhythms and performances of the tradition revisited
The meetings are an opportunity to bring guest musicians into dialogue with the student audience by recounting their own research journey and then translating these reflections into sonic experience through live performance.
"Traditions and Regenerations" is thus proposed as an educational and immersive opportunity, capable of stimulating a critical understanding of the processes of transmission, transformation and re-signification of popular musics in the contemporary world.
