The single guarantee committee
The Single Committee of Guarantee (CUG) of the University of Naples Federico II aims to ensure, for the Federico II community, equality and equal opportunities in terms of gender, age, sexual orientation, geographical origin, ethnic origin, disability, religion and language, as well as the realization of a work environment characterized by respect for the principles of equal opportunity, organizational well-being and the fight against any form of discrimination and moral and psychological violence.
The Single Guarantee Committee for equal opportunities, the enhancement of the welfare of those who work and against discrimination was established pursuant to Article 27 of the University Statute with DR/2015/994 of 07/04/2015.
The CUG of the University of Frederick, chaired by Prof. Concetta Giancola, is in its second term. The current composition, which respects gender parity, can be found on the institutional website.
The CUG has an office at Via Mezzocannone 4, has a page on the Athenaeum website (http://www.unina.it/ateneo/organigramma/cug), a dedicated website(http://www.cug.unina.it/), an e-mail box(cug@unina.it) and a certified e-mail box(cug@pec.unina.it).
The Committee drafted the second Positive Action Plan for the three-year period 2022-2024. The actions of the CUG of the University of Frederick are part of the three macro-areas, widely recognized nationally and internationally. The first relates to internal and local training/information for the promotion of a culture of equality and equal opportunities. The second concerns the promotion of organizational well-being with particular reference to the reconciliation of life, work and study times within the university community. Finally, the third macro-area concerns combating the phenomena of discrimination in order to achieve full integration in the university community, ensuring the absence of any form of violence related to gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, language, ethnic origin, personal and political beliefs, and disability conditions.
The CUG has strengthened its presence in the University, collaborating with internal bodies, as well as with bodies operating on the regional and national territory such as Professional Orders, the Campania Region Equality Council, the Campania Health Sector CUG Network, the National CUG Network and the National Conference of Equality Bodies.
The Committee also participates collaboratively and proactively in the preparation of the University Performance Plan and has delegated one of its members to participate in the working group for the drafting of this BdG.
The Trusted Advisor
In the University of Federico II, the role of trusted advisor(s) to the Rector for the fight against sexual harassment, currently carried out by Prof. Caterina Arcidiacono, was established in 2007. This figure operates in synergy with the CUG's listening desk, with the aim of protecting the dignity of women and men at work and ensuring a serene environment in which interpersonal relationships are marked by fairness, equality and mutual respect for personal freedom and dignity, especially by working radically for the suppression of sexual harassment and sexual harassment, which constitute a very serious injury to the mental and physical health of female workers, their fundamental civil rights, including personal dignity and free expression of personality.
In addition, in order to prevent and combat discrimination in the workplace, the University has a committee that acts to combat bullying and promote occupational well-being.

The Gender Observatory on Universities and Research.
TheGender Observatory on University and Research at the Federico II University of Naples is a working group that operates with the aim of promoting research and innovative actions on gender issues in scientific research and academic life.
The Gender Observatory is divided into four research areas:
- Science and Society, aimed at developing research and actions to integrate the gender dimension into research in the area of Science, Technology and Society Studies, as well as to promote awareness of the gender issue in research and science, considered among the main causes of women's exclusion from university careers.
- Evaluation, the aim of which is to enhance diversity and the gender dimension in research, including by experimenting with evaluation methods that are sensitive to the multidimensionality of "excellence."
- Gender statistics, aimed at monitoring data on women's attendance and paths in the different areas of the University's activity (teaching, research, third mission, governance and administration);
- Scientific careers, to promote actions to support the development of women's paths and careers and gender equality in the different disciplinary areas and fields of the University.
The Observatory works in collaboration with an Institutional Steering Committee, composed of members of the University management , collegiate bodies and all University bodies responsible for achieving equal opportunities, respect for differences, and the study of discrimination processes.
The Observatory also participates in a number of national and international networks on gender and academia, including the CRUI Study Table on Gender Issues, the "Smart-working and Gender" research groupand the working group for proposals for inclusivity in academic and research careers, promoted by the National Conference of Italian University Equality Bodies (2020), the European Association EUMENT-NET(European Network of Mentoring Programmes for the Advancement of Equal Opportunities and Cultural and Institutional Change in Academia and Research) (2017-2020).
The names of the contact persons of the Gender Observatory can be found on the institutional website(http://www.og.unina.it/osservatorio/chi-siamo/).
SiNAPSi University Center - Anti-Discrimination and Culture of Differences Section.
The SInAPSi Center is the University Center of the University of Naples Federico II, deputed to the promotion of an inclusive culture in the academic context. Through diversified services and actions, the Center aims to foster and promote the well-being of all students of the University, no one excluded, intervening on the factors that undermine and compromise their full participation and realization as active, aware and participating subjects and citizens.
Called upon to address extremely varied problems of hardship and exclusion, the Center looks at the individual in his or her complexity and, making use of multidisciplinary expertise (psychological, pedagogical, sociological and bioengineering), proposes integrated actions that cover areas such as: disability, specific learning disorders, discrimination in its many forms, and the promotion of educational success and employability.
As part of the actions promoted by the Center, theAnti-Discrimination and Culture of Differences Section, drawing inspiration from the Charter of Human Rights and the Principle of Equal Opportunity, aims to implement good practices aimed at preventing and countering the prevarications related to sexual and gender stigma through awareness, information and training paths, aimed at students and the entire academic community, which aim to foster a correct knowledge on the issue of discrimination, promoting within the University Institution the use of languages and practices respectful and inclusive of all identities. Historically, in fact, sexual and gender stigma has been addressed and explored in the scientific field from a predominantly binary and heterosexist perspective and, even today, there are few studies in Italy that analyze the well-being and degree of inclusion of LGBT+ university students and the correlation between discrimination phenomena and university career disinvestment (Rankin, 2003). Equally under-investigated is the impact of a sexist, genderist and heteronormative culture on the well-being of faculty, researchers, managers and technical-administrative staff and its possible relationship to the quality of their professional experience.
The activities promoted by the Anti-Discrimination Section aim precisely to address the phenomenon of sexual and gender stigma from a complex perspective, with the goal of valuing all identities, recognizing their needs and specificities, in order to make the university context fully inclusive of all differences.
The Section also promotes a series of interventions-ranging from psychological counseling aimed at the individual, families and small groups, to counseling for organizations, through awareness-raising actions through the web-that cross the boundaries of the academy and aim to involve the broader social and cultural context, thanks to the understanding with Local Administrations, ASL, NGOs, Schools, Sports Associations etc.
The Anti-Discrimination and Culture of Differences Section is chaired by Prof. Anna Lisa Amodeo.
The Neapolitan Women in Science Coordination.
The Neapolitan Coordinamento Napoletano Women in Science is an association of female researchers of different backgrounds and education from the University of Naples "Federico II," the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli," and Research Institutions such as CNR, INGV and INFN. The Coordination was founded in 2007, the year proclaimed by the European community as "Year of Equal Opportunities for All," with the aim of promoting positive actions that counteract the condition of gender inequality in scientific institutions and in society in general. In particular, it aims to:
- increase scientific contacts and collaborations among women working in different fields of knowledge;
- foster debate and experience sharing among people and groups from different cultural/social backgrounds;
- reflect on the gender perspective as a key to understanding reality;
- propose cultural models based on the real valorization of differences;
- to give visibility to female figures working in the field of scientific research;
To promote its aims, the Association carries out multiple activities, both in the educational and informational spheres, in collaboration with various institutions. The activities of the Neapolitan Women in Science Coordination reflect the multidisciplinary nature of its members, as well as their transversality with respect to the Institutions to which they belong.
The Neapolitan Coordination Women in Science is chaired by Dr. Angela Gargano of INFN.
The Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Women's Studies and Research Women Gender Training
The Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Studies and Research Women Gender Education (DGF), incardinated in the Department of Humanities of the University of Naples Federico II, was established in January 2010. The objective of the laboratory is to develop methodologies and tools within educational research and implement interventions (seminars and study conferences, actions, projects, consultancies, cultural initiatives, partnerships, training paths) in order to:
- educate for equal opportunities, gender equity and culture of differences, combating sexist and racist stereotypes;
- deconstruct conventional theories of education and help dismantle socio-cultural paradigms that provide a stereotypical description of female and male identity;
- counter gender-related asymmetry, discrimination and violence;
- Valuing women's knowledge, narratives and culture;
- bring out the complexity of women's experience and gender relations across centuries and in different cultures;
- revisit knowledge, languages, pedagogical relations, teaching methodologies, and content, within an educational system in which equality of rights does not mean equalization of identities;
- investigate issues related to relationality, citizenship, interpersonal and intercultural communication;
- promote gender training methodologies that enable the development of reflection and self-knowledge of subjects in training;
- implement gender research through interdisciplinary contributions;
- foster interactions between genders and generations;
- support the implementation of pathways aimed at developing reflective skills and critical thinking in students;
- promote well-being and active citizenship;
- create a research network between university, territory and local institutions.
DGF also offers:
- Counseling with respect to issues related to young people's enjoyment of media and new media
- Intervention strategies involving the aspect of family-work reconciliation
- Listening desk for teachers, parents and pupils
- Expressive workshops on affectivity and emotions
- Meetings on addiction issues
- Orientation interventions
In 2014, the Family Lab was established with the aim of increasing studies on family educational relationships, the evolution of family models, existing relationships between families and the social context, and innovative pedagogical methods and tools in the intervention with families, couples and individuals, through research, training and consulting activities; the latter is provided through the service "Family Educational Needs in the Life Cycle and New Parenting Routes."
In addition, since 2015 DGF has been promoting Orientation and Skills Assessment actions aimed primarily at a target audience of undergraduate and graduate young women and, secondarily, women from the target area, to help them gain awareness of their own potential of skills, competencies and experiences gained in university, professional and family life.
The DGF workshop is coordinated by Prof. Francesca Marone.
LGBT Observatory
The LGBT Observatory first of its kind at a public university institution in Italy-was established at the Department of Social Sciences of the Federico II University of Naples in 2014 and is an open and free scientific platform on LGBT issues, gender and sexual identities. The body is animated by an interdisciplinary scientific committee composed of international researchers. The activities of the body, which is sociologically oriented, are characterized by a strong multi-sectoral commitment, as well as the training, updating of researchers, practitioners and scholars interested or engaged in LGBT issues. The LGBT Observatory joins national associations and committees dedicated to gender studies, such as GIFTS, AIS - Gender Studies Section, OGEPO - University of Salerno Fisciano, Diversity Association - Milan. The LGBT Observatory's research is also aimed at those working in public administration, public and private companies, academic and non-academic researchers, LGBT associations and all those who wish to find, free of charge, material and insights for their own research and professional development activities. The LGBT Observatory portal offers the possibility to consult multimedia documents and receive updates on LGBT issues, allowing free access to various types of materials (journals, research reports, papers, power point presentations...) referring to research, articles and volumes produced in Italy and abroad. The activity of the LGBT Observatory also aims to create a nationwide LGBT information system through the networking of research data collected and processed by researchers in the area and published on the portal. The observatory organizes multiple conferences, study days, workshops and participates in public events and demonstrations(http://www.osservatoriolgbt.eu/index.php/chi-siamo/cv-sintetico-osservatorio-lgb).
The LGBT laboratory is coordinated by Prof. Fabio Corbisiero
