The Area is focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms, pathophysiology and new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches  for cardio-pulmonary, immune and geriatric diseases. Research in the cardiopulmonary field is focused on the characterization of the genetic basis of cardiomyopathies and to the identification of molecular basis and physiology of heart failure, hypertension and associated diseases. Research in geriatrics is focused on the molecular mechanisms involved in the processes of normal and pathological aging; geriatric syndromes pathophysiology and clinical approach. The research in clinical immunology and allergy is focused on molecular and translational study of immune system diseases.
