FIS Calls for Proposals 3: Twenty Federica projects win funding

The University of Naples Federico II has been awarded a total grant worth more than 25million 500 thousand euros from the Italian Science Fund 2024/2025 (FIS Call 3) of the Ministry of University and Research.

There are a total of 20 winning projects, including 14 Starting Grants rewarding emerging researchers, 4 Consolidator Grants recognizing the work done by early career researchers, and 2 Advanced Grants for established researchers. The main objective of the funding program is to promote the development of fundamental research in the manner established at the European level on the model of the European Research Council (ERC).

The winning projects cover a wide range of disciplines: from medicine to pharmacy, from biology to architecture, from physics to different areas of engineering, and from chemical sciences to agriculture.

The young emerging Federican researchers who won Starting Grants are:

Caterina Miro from the Department of Medicine, for a study that fits into the Physiology in Health, Disease and Aging macro-area;

Valeria Nele of the Department of Pharmacy within the Materials Engineering macroarea;

Damiano Fiorillo and Giuseppe Francesco from the Department of Physics "Ettore Pancini" for a study pertaining to Fundamental Constituents of Matter;

Giuseppe Ercolano of the Department of Pharmacy for a project included in the Immunity, Infection and Immunotherapy area;

Claudia Riccardi from the Department of Chemical Sciences for a study in Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Human Diseases;

Jessica Gambardella from the Department of Advanced Biomedical Sciences for a project in the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Human Diseases category;

Valerio Cirillo of the Department of Agriculture in the Biotechnology and Biosystems Engineering macroarea;

Antonietta Siciliano of the Department of Biology also in the Biotechnology and Biosystems Engineering macroarea;

Mario Selvaggio of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology for research in the Systems and Communication Engineering category;

Giorgio de Alteriis from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Systems and Communication Engineering macroarea;

Sara Marzia Vaccaro of the Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture in the Products and Processes Engineering macroarea;

Angelo Coppola of the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, Products and Processes Engineering macroarea;

Chiara Lacava of the Department of Economics and Statistics, macroarea Individuals, Markets and Organizations;

Francesca Ciampa from the Department of Architecture, macroarea Studies of Cultures and Arts.

The winners in the Consolidator Grant category are:

Marcella Cesana of the Department of Advanced Biomedical Sciences for research in the macroarea Molecules of Life, Biological Mechanisms, Structures and Functions;

Claudia Pivonello from the Department of Public Health, in the macroarea Physiology in Health, Disease and Aging;

Danilo Fiore of the Department of Molecular Medicine and Medical Biotechnology in the macroarea Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Human Diseases;

Ilaria Papa from the Department of Chemical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering, Products and Processes Engineering macroarea.

The Advanced Grant winners are:

Antonio Abate of the Department of Chemical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering for a project pertaining to the Materials Engineering macroarea;

Giovanni Acampora of the Department of Physics "Ettore Pancini" in the Computer Science and Informatics macroarea.
