The Italian University Sports Federation is also celebrating for the bronze medal achieved by the men's epee team composed of Neapolitan Fabrizio Cuomo, a computer science student at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) of the University of Naples Federico II, and Nicolò Del Contrasto, Fabrizio Di Marco and Simone Mencarelli. The swordsmen's journey began with a heart-stopping success obtained against Estonia 41-40. A thriller epilogue that saw Italy smile at the end of an assault that could have been fatal for the team supported, at the bottom of the platform, by master Giacomo Falcini.

The path of the Italian university students continued with the victory over the quartet of authorized neutral athletes, materialized with the score of 45-37. Only in the semifinals did the tricolor team surrender in the presence of Japan, which, with the result of 45-38, hijacked the Italian team's race to the bronze final. A delicate assault that could mean medal or defeat, in the final for third place the team led by Fabrizio Cuomo, a student of master Antonio Iannaccone at the Partenopean Sports Club, exulted 45-34 against France. At the 32nd Universiade, the Italian delegation secured another precious metal.
