Canada-Italy Prize for Innovation 2025 to a young Federician

It is Pierluigi Casolaro, RTDa at the Department of Physics 'Ettore Pancini, who is the winner of the Canada-Italy Prize for Innovation 2025 with the project "Starry Crystals on Fiber: a Novel Dosimeter for Space Radiation."
The project involves the development in partnership with the TRIUMF Research Centre in Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada) of a novel dosimeter for measuring radiation in both 'manned' and 'unmanned' space missions.

The Canada-Italy Innovation Prize 2025 aims to strengthen ties between Canada and Italy in innovation by providing an opportunity for researchers, scientists or creative professionals to develop collaborative projects with Canadian partners in areas that lead to innovative, inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development. Over the past decade, the award has led to important discoveries, research and applications, showing the significant impact of cooperation between Canada and Italy.
Four priorities for 2025: energy security; artificial intelligence (AI) and sports; space technology; and migration management.

The award letter, signed by Canada's Ambassador to Italy, emphasizes:

"(...) the importance that this award plays in the context of the Canada-Italy Action Plan for strengthened collaboration. The awarded project, "Starry Crystals on Fiber: a Novel Dosimeter for Space Radiation," represents an excellent example of scientific cooperation between ltaly and Canada. We are confident that the collaboration between the University of Naples Federico II and the Canadian TRIUMF center, will serve both to contribute significantly to the safety of space missions and to strengthen the ties between our two countries in the fields of science. technology and innovation."
