A major international competition in pediatric emergency management that brought together 40 teams from universities in Italy, France, Portugal, and Spain
The eighth edition of the Pediatric Simulation Games, an international competition focused on pediatric emergency management, has concluded in Latina . The event brought together more than 40 teams from universities in Italy, France, Portugal, and Spain.
The Power-NAP teamfrom the University of Naples Federico II finished the competition in fourth place, following four days of simulations and more than thirty emergency scenarios tackled by the medical residents. The team members are Alessio Ciaccio (team leader), Fabio Centanni, Ines Squillace, Sara Russo, Francesca Scopano, Alessandro Fioretto, Domenico Paolercio, Antonio Esposito, Davide Cagno (coach), and Laura Omaggio (coach). Ines, Sara, Francesca, Alessandro, Domenico, and Antonio are second-year students, and they owe this significant achievement to their dedication, perseverance, and passion.
The University of Padua took the top spot on the podium, followed bythe Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa (SEUP) andthe Catholic University of the Sacred Heart – Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome.
For Federico II, fourth place represents a significant achievement in a competition that tests not only clinical knowledge but also the ability to work as a team and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
From September 2 to 5, the residents tackled more than thirty scenarios, including cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, pneumonia, upper airway obstruction, septic shock, head trauma, and the management of rare diseases in the emergency department. On the final day, the teams participated in the fifth round of simulations, followed by the semifinals and finals.
The event thus also served as an important opportunity for training and international exchange, through the simulation of complex clinical situations and collaboration among young professionals from different countries.
Rounding out the list of awards were individual prizes given for the best performances in specific areas: the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” received the award for best airway management; Sapienza Sant’Andrea was recognized for best cardiopulmonary resuscitation management; and Sapienza Policlinico Umberto I received the award for best teamwork.
The competition also underscored the value of comparing different universities and educational institutions.
