Nunzio Romano new member of Global Soil Partnership technical committee

Nunzio

Nunzio Romano, professor of Hydraulic Land Protection and Naturalistic Engineering at the Department of Agriculture of the University of Frederick, has been appointed, for the two-year period 2025-2027 and based on comparative evaluation, as a member of the Technical Committee of the Global Soil Partnership, established at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (F.A.O.).

The Global Soil Partnership (GSP) was established in December 2012 as a mechanism to develop a strong interactive partnership and to improve governance and promote sustainable soil management. Specifically, the activities of the GLOSOLAN Global Network of Soil Properties Measurement Laboratories aim to develop and strengthen laboratory capabilities in soil analysis and address the need to harmonize data collected by various research institutions. The harmonization of methods, units of measurement, data and information is of paramount importance to provide reliable and comparable information across countries, and to generate new harmonized databases useful for decision-making processes engaged in the sustainable management of natural resources.

Professor Romano is head of the Soil Hydrology Laboratory at the Federico II University, and his appointment within the Europe/Eurasia regions testifies to the leading contribution of the Federico II University and the Department of Agriculture in addressing the challenges facing agro-ecosystems in the context of climate change, rapid land-use changes and profound anthropogenic alterations.

More information about the Global Soil Partnership is available on the official website.
