'Making Place'

Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 12:00 pm, in the Aula Magna of Palazzo Gravina, Francesco Rossini, Associate Professor and Director of the Master in Architecture (MArch) at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), will deliver the lecture Making Place. Marella Santangelo, Director of the Department of Architecture, will open the event with institutional greetings. The lecture will be introduced by Giovanni Multari, Professor of Architectural and Urban Design. A discussion will follow with Massimo Visone, Professor of History of Architecture, and Gianluigi Freda, Professor of Architectural and Urban Design. Francesco Rossini is an architect, urban designer, Associate Professor, and Director of the Master in Architecture (MArch) at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He graduated with honors from the University of Naples and earned his PhD (cum laude) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona with a dissertation on public spaces in private developments in Hong Kong. He has carried out research and teaching activities in Italy, Spain, and China, collaborating with institutions such as the Politecnico di Milano, UPC Barcelona, Columbia University of New York, Tongji University in Shanghai, and the University of Naples Federico II. Alongside his academic career, he has worked for more than ten years as an architect in Italy, Spain, and China, developing projects in architecture and urban design. In 2006, he received a Special Mention from the International Union of Architects (UIA) in the international competition Celebration of Cities 2 for an urban regeneration project in Naples, later exhibited at the 10th Venice Architecture Biennale. Since 2013, he has been a permanent collaborator of CUHK, focusing his research on the transformation of contemporary metropolises and on the role of public space in urban regeneration processes.
