Mourning in the Athenaeum for the untimely death of Professor Maria Teresa Gorgitano
Professor Maria Teresa Gorgitano, associate professor of Agricultural Economics, Food and Rural Estimates in the Department of Agriculture, passed away prematurely.
Professor Gorgitano, born in 1958, spent her entire life at the University of Federico II. She graduated from Portici, where at the Center for Specialization and Economic-Agricultural Research for the Mezzogiorno, she majored in Agricultural Economics. Consolidating her education was important research experience at the Institut Agronomique Méditerranéen in Montpellier and the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (France). Before becoming a researcher at the Faculty of Agriculture in Portici, she was a consultant at the National Institute of Agricultural Economics (INEA), a fellow at INRA - ESR in Paris-Gringnon, and a researcher at the Center for Specialization and Economic-Agricultural Research for the Mezzogiorno.
Her research activity has always involved her, with high scientific rigor, on the issues of farm economics, conducting research on enterprise management, the analysis of their production and organizational structures, innovations and innovative behavior, the supply chain and the valorization of agricultural production with limited supply, devoting particular attention to the agricultural realities of the inland and marginal areas of Southern Italy.
The other important aspect of her activity, which she particularly cared about, was the training of young people. She was among the promoters, within the framework of the Italian Society of Agricultural Economics, of the working group on the didactics of the economic-agricultural disciplines, helping to fuel the discussion and debate on the contents and methods for updating and innovating the discipline in relation to changes in the context.
Alongside his institutional teaching commitment, he served for the Department of Agriculture as Erasmus contact person for France (La Salle University, Fesia Consortium) and Spain (ETSIAM - University of Cordoba).
His untimely death leaves all colleagues astonished, and they huddle heartbrokenly around his family.
