Academy of the Frederick II: sixteen advanced training courses with leading international companies

There are sixteen Federico II Academies, free higher education facilities created through collaboration agreements between the University and internationally renowned companies. They offer training paths of particular relevance to the productive fabric, developing skills and soft skills. These high training paths are accessed through calls for applications that are open to national and international candidates. The Academies are totally free and in some cases provide scholarships.

The first-born Apple Developer Academy brings together the University of Frederick and the Cupertino-based company Apple. The first in Europe, the Academy opened in 2016 and welcomed the first 100 students from around the world to the San Giovanni a Teduccio campus. The nine-month training is totally delivered in English, and focuses on app development for the world's most innovative and vibrant app ecosystem. Students with only a high school diploma can participate in the Academy, and it is not necessary to have a specific IT background. The training is, in fact, designed to support not only those who already have prior knowledge, but also young people from different areas of study. The classes are all based on Challenge Based Learning (CBL), a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning.

 

The Aerotech Academy was born out of the collaboration between the University of Bologna and Leonardo at theAerotech Campus in Pomigliano d'Arco and offers high-level training on frontier engineering topics in order to provide theoretical competencies, operational and concrete skills immediately expendable in advanced technology industries. Activities are spread over nine full-time months, including five months of classroom training dedicated to research and higher education in aerospace and four months of project work through the analysis, application and evolution of case studies of real work experiences. An interdisciplinary, English-language course aimed at students with at least a bachelor's degree.

 

The Cisco Academy - DTLab Networking Bootcamp is a cooperation project between the Federico II's Center for Metrological and Advanced Technological Services (CeSMA) with Cisco Italia, Consorzio Clara and from 2021 with the participation of Meditech, Mediterranean Competence Center. The initiative trains experts in modern networking technologies capable of developing innovative applications for programmable network infrastructures in the Industry 4.0 technological context and provides a specialized course focused on learning modern networking technologies, including those enabling the Edge/Fog Computing paradigm, Network Programmability and Cybersecurity. The initiative is divided into three phases: Phase 1. DTLab Express, open access, for about 3 months. Phase 2. DTLab Bootcamp - Skill Zone, with access through public call, for the duration of about 3 months and Phase 3. DTLab Bootcamp - Innovation Zone, guaranteed for those selected in Phase 2, for about 2 months. Students with only a high school diploma may also participate.

 

The Cybersecurity Hackademy is the result of a collaboration between Federico II's Center for Advanced Metrology and Technology Services (CeSMA) and Accenture, aimed at training experts on advanced cybersecurity issues in the presence of complex network architectures. The activities, which will take place at the San Giovanni a Teduccio technology hub, focus on some of the enabling technologies of the Industry 4.0 paradigm, with particular reference to cloud computing and IoT systems. The approach is hands-on and is framed in the broader context of Challenge Based Learning (CBL). The 6-month training course , divided into three consecutive periods, is developed with a methodology based on the integration of online and/or in-person training, autonomous learning, and experiential teaching based on group work to solve practical challenges of increasing difficulty. The Hackademy is aimed at high school graduates, undergraduate and graduate students in technical and scientific subjects.

DIGITA is Federico II's "Digital Transformation & Industry Innovation Academy" in partnership with Deloitte Digital. It was created with the aim of providing young talents, with at least a bachelor's degree, with the skills needed to bridge the gap between companies and the Digital ecosystem. The Academy promotes the acquisition of skills in communication, design, digital marketing and more. Study of popular programming languages such as Python and Java, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and the Internet of Things. These are some of the knowledge that is transferred to young students with an open look at the entire 4.0 universe. The educational path is spread over 9 months, 6 of classroom lessons, in the San Giovanni a Teduccio location, in which students will be trained through "Challenge Oriented" modes and 3 months of Project Work at partner companies.

The SIC Academy - Smart Infrastructures & Construction sees together the Metrological and Advanced Technological Services Center (CeSMA) of the Federico II and Tecne of the Autostrade per l'Italia Group with the aim of training new figures of high professionalism in the field of design, management and monitoring of infrastructures related to the road system. Aimed at young engineers, already graduated, the Academy presents a didactic project articulated over about 6 months, divided into four training phases. The teaching modules range from general notions about infrastructure and the main reference regulations in the sector, to multidisciplinary approaches combining traditional and Industry 4.0 elements (digital fabrication, BIM, artificial intelligence and virtual reality) and then applying the skills acquired through group project-work activities and induction weeks in the company.

The CoreAcademy. Conversion and Resilience is the higher education facility established by the Federico II in collaboration with KPMG, DXC Technology and Exprivia, open to bachelor's and master's degree graduates in different fields of study, which aims to train specialized figures in the field of public service transformation. Specifically, the training project, marked by innovative didactics, provides for specialization in the field of transformation of public services using a multidisciplinary and circular approach, which is developed over a six-month course, and includes, at the San Giovanni a Teduccio location, lectures, workshops, seminars, external events, and project work. The course focuses on four main thematic areas: Ethics, Organizational Processes, Technological Solutions, Management.

 

The 5G Academy formed by the University Federico II with the Center for Advanced Metrological and Technological Services (CeSMA), Nokia, TIM and PagoPa has a specific reference to the revolutionary potential of 5G and fields two distinct tracks: Postgraduate and Professional. The first one, full time with 7-month duration, is aimed at undergraduates and graduates with not only a scientific-technological background (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) but also young economists, sociologists, jurists, psychologists. The advanced course, with a total duration of about 6 months, is, on the other hand, dedicated to industry professionals interested in learning more about the productive, economic and social potential of 5G with a particular focus in the areas of telco, banking, industry 4.0, automotive, energies, multimedia, logistic, airport, retail, healthcare, and to evolve and improve their business.

 

The Quantum Computing Academy was born from the synergy between the Neapolitan startup "QuantumNet," one of the first born in Italy on quantum computing, and CeSMA, the Center for Advanced Metrological and Technological Services of the University of Frederick is aimed at first and second level graduates with a background mainly in science-technology (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and aims to train students free of charge on the innovative topics of Quantum Computing. The training course, at the San Giovanni a Teduccio Technological Campus, is divided between lectures given by professors who are experts in the field and project work, carried out in collaboration with private companies that support the initiative, for the duration of 6 months.

 

TheAgritech Academy is an advanced training course for three-year and master's degree graduates, promoted by the Federico II University in collaboration with the Companies and Research Centers of the National Center for Agricultural Technology (Agritech). The aim is to train high-profile specialized technicians capable of understanding, governing and facilitating the technological and digital transformation of the primary agricultural sector, with a view to promoting environmental sustainability. The educational project is spread over 7 months and is characterized by a strong integration between in-person training and experiential teaching, which will take place in two phases: classroom training at the University Pole of San Giovanni a Teduccio and specialized training, in which each student will follow an individual or group path based on his or her previous training, engaging in concrete case studies alongside Agritech program partner companies.

 

The PharmaTech Academy is among the ambitious training paths envisaged by the project"National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology," which has the University ofPadua as proposer and the University Federico II as implementer as Spoke for the topic"Pla-tforms for RNA/DNA delivery." The Academy will train highly qualified professionals to work in the supply chain from research to production of RNA drugs and in gene therapy.The training, intended for master's graduates, for a total of 8 months at the Polo Federico II in Scampia-School of Medicine, is based on the concept of Learning by Doing, where students will be confronted with real challenges offered by the pharmaceutical companies involved, and workshop sessions focused on very specific topics related to the job market. Practical activities will also be enhanced through extended reality workshops designed for immersive reality experiences. The training will end with internship activities at one of the National Center's 50 corporate partners.

Micron International Academy is an advanced training path for three-year and master's degree graduates in specific technical-scientific courses, promoted by the University Federico II in collaboration with Micron Italia.
The goal is to train highly qualified professionals in the field of development and verification of embedded memory systems. The topics covered include: structure of NAND memories and related interfaces, System-on-Chip design and verification technologies and techniques, software development for embedded systems, test techniques and related electronic instrumentation.The educational project is spread over 6 months (15 hours - 3 days per week) and is characterized by classroom training, at the San Giovanni a Teduccio site, and hands-on activities based on projects and labs. Each student who successfully completes the Academy will receive a certificate of participation in the training program and a scholarship.

TheAcademy for Women Entrepreneurs - AWE is a totally free international program created through a collaboration between the University of Federico II and the U.S. Department of State (Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs), to support women and girls, aged between 18 and 40 with a good level of English (female students enrolled at Italian universities; recent graduates and/or professionals), in the creation and/or development of entrepreneurial realities through training, mentoring, business partnerships and collaboration opportunities with Italian and U.S. companies.
The educational project is spread over 7 months (max 7 hours per week) divided between training activities at the Polo Tecnologico Federiciano in San Giovanni a Teduccio and online classes on the Dreambuilder platformof the University of Arizona's Thunderbird School of Global Management. Teaching is supplemented with mentorship sessions, pitch competitions, guest speaker talks, collaborations with incubators and networking events with U.S. Exchange Alumni and business leaders.

The 3D Experience Academy is a joint initiative between the University Federico II through CeSMA, Centro Servizi Metrologici e Tecnologici Avanzati, Dassault Systèmes Italia and Cadland Academy to train highly specialized skills in Computer-Aided Design and Product LifecycleManagement (PLM) technologies.
The training is based on a theoretical-practical method that combines basic theoretical courses on design methodologies, practical application courses and Dassault Systèmes certifications, and project work activities carried out in collaboration with companies in the industrial sector, with particular reference to the aerospace and mechanical sectors. Training takes place over 12 weeks for a total of 480 hours between, lectures and self-study (240 hours), and company internship, Project Work and final paper preparation (240 hours). The teaching location is at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Piazzale V. Tecchio, 80.

The RETURN Academy is a training course proposed by the University of Naples Federico II and funded by the MUR from the resources of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) under the project "Return - Multi-risk science for resilient communities under a changing climate."Aimed at graduates, it was created with the objective of training highly qualified professionals through the development of interdisciplinary skills in the prevention, prediction, management and mitigation of natural, environmental and anthropogenic risks in contexts of climate change.
The training, using a multidisciplinary approach, is developed with a blended learning methodology, which includes an integration of in-person/online training and experiential teaching, as well as seminar interventions and field activities also in collaboration with the world of entrepreneurship and that of local authorities, administrations and entities. The training takes place at the Polo federiciano in San Giovanni a Teduccio and at the offices of the partners involved. The training course consists of 80 hours and will last 3 months. RETURN Academy activities will take place mainly on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings with a minimum daily commitment of 4 hours.

TheIdeneers Academy is the advanced training pathway for master's graduates (or in the process of completion, with no more than two exams and thesis missing) in specific technical-scientific courses, promoted by the Federico II University through the Center for Metrological and Advanced Technological Services (CeSMA) in collaboration with Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A, a leading company capable of inspiring, integrating, developing and producing the most cutting-edge solutions in the field of mobility in today's globalized market. The course aims to train experts in the field of automotive engineering topics and, more specifically, in its Electrics & Electronics area, able to operate within the engineering and services supply chain required by the Volkswagen Group.
The training course, in Italian, lasting 400 hours spread over 13 weeks, which will take place in June, July and September, will be strongly interdisciplinary in nature, also including notions of basic business processes and regulations in place in the company. Since it is aimed at professional insertion in the company, it will be enriched and enhanced with the accompaniment of technical figures from Italdesign during all face-to-face classes and, above all, with project-work. The activities will take place at the Polo Tecnologico Federiciano in San Giovanni a Teduccio.
