Honorary master's degree to mathematician Tadeusz Iwaniec
A ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, to confer the Laurea Magistrale Honoris Causa in Mathematical Engineering to Tadeusz Iwaniec, John Raymond French Professor at Syracuse University (USA).
Tadeusz Iwaniec, Finland Distinguished Professor at the Finnish Academy of Sciences from 2009 to 2014, has been a Foreign Fellow of the Academy of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the National Society of Sciences Letters and Arts in Naples since 1998. In 2009 he received the Sierpinski Medal for his contribution to Hyperelasticity Theory.
The event will be held at theAula Magna Storica of theUniversity of Naples, 38 Corso Umberto I, in Naples, at 11:30 a.m.
Speeches by Gaetano Manfredi, Rector University of Naples Federico II, Piero Salatino, President of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School of the Federico II, and Gioconda Moscariello, Director of the Department of Mathematics and Applications "Renato Caccioppoli" of the Federico University will introduce the ceremony.
Carlo Sbordone, Professor of Mathematical Analysis at the Federico II, will deliver the Laudatio Academica of Tadeusz Iwaniec, which will be followed by Professor Tadeusz Iwaniec's Lectio Magistralis, and the conferral of the degree.
