For cultural and artistic merits, the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Naples Federico II confers the Laurea Honoris Causa in Disciplines of Music and Performance. History and Theory to Maestro Michele Campanella, a pianist and conductor who is not only an excellent virtuoso appreciated worldwide but also an interpreter capable like few of interpenetrating the pieces he performs with rare analytical ability.
An internationally renowned pianist, Michele Campanella has played in the most prestigious concert halls and with the world's leading orchestras under the direction of Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Georges Prêtre, Zubin Mehta, Wolfgang Sawallisch, among others. He has numerous recordings to his credit with Emi, Philips, Foné, PYE, Fonit Cetra, ranging in a very wide repertoire(Liszt, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Busoni, Musorgsky, Balakirev, Rossini, Brahms, Scarlatti).
The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Aula Magna Storica, Corso Umberto I No. 40, Naples.
Rector Gaetano Manfredi and Department of Humanities Director Edoardo Massimilla will introduce the ceremony. Enrico Careri, Professor of Musicology and History of Music at the University of Frederick, will deliver the Academic Laudatio. This will be followed by a Lectio Magistralis by Michele Campanella.
