The Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti with French oboist Fabien Thouand

Fabien

On Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at 7 p.m., at Largo San Marcellino 10 in Naples, the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti at the Church of Saints Marcellinus and Festus to meet French oboist Fabien Thouand, conductor and soloist for the occasion in a program featuring two beautiful musical pages from the second half of the 1700s: "The House of the Devil," a symphony by Luigi Boccherini charged with quivers, surges, suspensions up to the swirling 'chaconne representing hell,' according to the author's own definition (homage to Gluck's Don Juan, but also a pre-Romantic omen).

W. A. Mozart's "Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra K 314," rich in spirit and grace, crowned by a Rondo whose sparkling refrain will echo in a famous aria from the Rape from the Seraglio.

Fabien Thouand, currently first oboe of the Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, laden with awards and accolades, has developed a distinguished career with Europe's leading orchestral and chamber ensembles (since 2004 he has been first oboe at the Teatro alla Scala for many years), playing with such world-class conductors as Muti, Abbado, Maazel, Prêtre, Mehta, Masur, Dutoit and many others. His career is flanked by intense teaching activity; he currently teaches at the Royal College of London.

The Nov. 9 concert will crown a masterclass in oboe by Thouand that will also be held in San Marcellino between Nov. 7 and Nov. 9, organized by the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti as part of its articulated program of orchestral workshop activities, instrumental improvement and professional promotion for the benefit of young musicians in our area.

A number of masterclass students will also participate in the concert.
