Federico II takes sixth place at Alma Mater Chess Tournament in Bologna, Italy
The University of Naples Federico II chess team placed sixth at the Alma Mater Chess Tournament in Bologna, a tournament that saw eighteen of the world's most important universities compete. The event was held Sept. 12-14 in the historic premises of the University Library in Bologna. The Federicians achieved prestigious victories against Keio University in Tokyo and the emblazoned Yale.
The Federiciani team, captained by classical philologist Mario Lamagna, was composed of Cesare Festa, Alessio Di Nardo and Andrea Rozza, engineering students, and Giuseppe D'Auria, a psychology student. D'Auria was also the winner of the Intel Award for the best match in the tournament according to the artificial intelligence program ShashGuru, which awarded his victory over Eamon Kerney of Trinity College Dublin.
Winning the tournament was the home team of the Alma Mater of Bologna, followed by the Dutch University of Maastricht and Oxford.
The rector of the University of Bologna gave all teams an appointment for next year's edition.
