The Federico II is third in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the GRAS - Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024, prepared by Shanghai Ranking. The best result ever among Italian universities.

And in the top 50, the University of Frederick also earned two other important rankings: in 26th place is Aerospace Engineering and in 36th place is Agricultural Sciences.

Three Academic Subjects that have gained positions since the 2023 ranking. In fact, Aerospace Engineering was ranked 35th and Agricultural Sciences 40th. The big leap, however, was made by 'Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences,' which is ranked third in the world in the Medical Sciences section. In 2023 it was ranked in the 76-100 range.

Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is third ahead of prestigious universities such as Kings college in London,Cambridge University and Johns Hopkins University and behind only Harward University and China's Peking Union Medical College.

The major contribution made to Federico II's success comes from the research conducted at the Department of Pharmacy, now directed by Professor Angelo Antonio Izzo and for the past six years by Professor Angela Zampella, a structure that has twice been recognized as a Department of Excellence by the Ministry of University and Research (for the years 2018-2022 and 2023-2027), thus creating the conditions for a multidisciplinary research ecosystem in the areas of chemistry and biology, focusing on the integration of knowledge in the field of drug sciences, from the early design stages to full preclinical development.

'The Shanghai ranking once again rewards the Frederick II. The Athenaeum's global position is maintained, while the most important novelty is found in the rankings by area where the Neapolitan University even ranks 3rd in the world for the scientific field of Pharmacy. This is the highest ranking of all Italian universities in any discipline,' says Matteo Lorito, rector of the University of Naples Federico II, proudly. Also making a leap forward in the top 50 are Aerospace (26) and Agriculture (36). These results come from a very high quality recruitment policy and support for research activities in the Athenaeum. Having such high scientific rankings also means being able to deliver high quality teaching, with lectures given by great experts and very productive researchers, thus benefiting our students,' he concludes.

The Shanghai GRAS rankings use a set of objective academic indicators to measure the performance of the world's universities in their respective subjects, covering 5 main evaluation categories: World-Class Faculty, World-class output, High quality research, Research impact and International Collaboration papers.

In 2024, Frederick II is ranked among the top 100 universities in the Shanghai Academic Ranking with as many as eight subjects. In addition to Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Aerospace Engineering and Agricultural Sciences , Physics, Civil Engineering and Veterinary Sciences also ranked well between 51st and 75th, followed by Food Science and Technology and Materials Engineering between 76th and 100th.

In the overall ranking, the University of Frederick maintains the position it gained in 2023, which sees it ranked between 201st and 300th in the world.

More than 1,900 universities out of 5,000 belonging to 96 countries were ranked in the 2024 ranking, and 55 subjects divided into the natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences sections were examined.
