Federico II University will host a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence with the InclEU project
The University of Naples Federico II has been selected as the location for a new Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, thanks to the InclEU - Inclusivity and Challenges of the Digital Revolution in the European Union project, approved under the Jean Monnet Actions promoted by the European Commission.
The three-year project was proposed and will be coordinated by Professor Patrizia De Pasquale and Doctor Andrea Circolo, both professors of European Union Law at the Department of Political Science of the University of Frederick.
The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence InclEU will focus on the theme of inclusiveness in the European Union, with particular attention to the challenges posed by the digital revolution. The Center aims to strengthen the visibility of EU studies, foster dialogue between academia and civil society, and promote knowledge of the European Union outside traditional university settings.
InclEU will offer a comprehensive program of activities, including seminars, conferences, workshops, courses, publications, and literary festivals, designed to engage students, scholars, citizens, and those less reached by initiatives on the European Union. Particular emphasis will be placed on public literacy activities and, in particular, those targeting disadvantaged communities-such as migrants and low-income families-with the aim of making their participation in European and digital issues more inclusive. The initiatives will be co-designed with local organizations and will focus on developing essential digital skills, such as job readiness, online safety and access to public services.
The proposal is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration involving several Federico II departments. In addition to the Department of Political Science (also represented by Paola De Vivo, Francesco Dandolo, Barbara Guastaferro and Gabriella Duranti), the project includes the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (Antonio Pescapè and Domenico Ciuonzo), the Department of Law (Fabio Ferraro and Umberto Ronga), the Department of Humanities (Michela Cennamo) and the Department of Social Sciences (Fabio Corbisiero).
InclEU will also make use of the collaboration of important local entities such as the Community of Sant'Egidio and the Naples Youth Forum, which have been actively engaged for years in promoting social inclusion, intercultural dialogue and civic participation. The involvement of these actors will be a crucial element in rooting the project in the social fabric and ensuring a concrete and lasting impact of its activities. Alongside these, the project will also benefit from the scientific contribution of external Universities (Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples, Pegaso Telematic University, University of Palermo and University of Sannio), confirming the ability of the Federico II University to build solid academic synergies and strengthen cooperation with other Italian universities in a network perspective.
Through InclEU, the Federico II reinforces its commitment to the critical deepening and dissemination of European values, offering itself as a space for reflection and comparison on the transformations taking place in contemporary digital society.
