AOU Federico II of Naples participates in Match It Now
Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Federico II of Naples is also participating in Match It Now, the national week dedicated to raising awareness about bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell donation, scheduled from September 20 to 27, 2025 throughout Italy. The initiative aims to involve especially young people between the ages of 18 and 35, who can sign up for the donor registry.
To enroll in the bone marrow donor registry at the Azienda federiciana, one can contact the Transplantation Immunogenetics Laboratory (Via Pansini 5 - Building 9/D - Monday through Saturday, 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.).
Compatibility for bone marrow and stem cell transplantation is a very rare event (one chance in a hundred thousand), so expanding the donor registry is a key commitment: each new enrollment can save a life. It is important to remember that bone marrow donation is not painful or invasive.
Enrollment in the registry requires HLA typing, which is done with a simple blood or saliva sample. Histocompatibility antigens are then evaluated from the biological sample, the results of which are entered into an Italian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (IBMDR) computer archive, transferred through the Regional Registry, and shared worldwide.
To learn more about donation and typing pathways in Campania, it is possible to contact the toll-free number 800 20 20 23 (active Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.).
