The University of Naples Federico II is hosting ItaBIC26, the first conference of the Bioinorganic Chemistry Thematic Group of the Italian Chemical Society, which will be held from September 7 to 9, 2026, at the Santi Marcellino e Festo Complex.
The event is organized by the Departments of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy and is sponsored by the City of Naples. The conference is organized by Professors Angela Lombardi and Flavia Nastri of the Department of Chemical Sciences and Stefania Galdiero of the Department of Pharmacy.
ItaBIC26 represents an important opportunity to discuss the latest advances at the interface between inorganic chemistry and the life sciences.
As the first meeting of the Bioinorganic Chemistry Thematic Group, the conference aims to bring together researchers from various scientific fields and foster new collaborations while addressing highly topical issues. From medicine to diagnostics, from catalysis to environmental and industrial applications, from biosensors to new nanostructured materials, the conference will offer an overview of the most innovative frontiers of bioinorganic chemistry.
The focus will be on metal complexes, metalloproteins, and their functional models, as well as the most advanced strategies for transforming fundamental knowledge into new solutions with practical applications.
The conference will feature internationally renowned scientists and a large number of young researchers. The plenary lectures will be delivered by Professor Thomas R. Ward of the University of Basel, a pioneer in the development of artificial metalloenzymes; Professor Franc Meyer of the University of Göttingen, an expert in advanced spectroscopic methods for characterizing reactive intermediates, and Professor Gilles Gasser of the University of Paris, an internationally renowned expert in the development of metal complexes for therapeutic applications.
ItaBIC26 aims to serve as a forum for dialogue among diverse expertise and perspectives, where bioinorganic research can fully express its interdisciplinary nature and its potential to contribute to the scientific and technological challenges of the future.
