Infinity. Visions of Elsewhere.

il

The rooms of the Maschio Angioino in Naples will host, from October 4 to 25, 2025, Ciro Palumbo 's exhibition entitled Infinito. Visions of Elsewhere.

Produced by Dadart, in synergy with Archeion - Archivio Ciro Palumbo and the collaboration of Artis Suavitas, under the patronage of the National Center for Leopardi Studies, the Campania Region and the City of Naples, the exhibition, under the artistic direction of Daniela Diodato, will be inaugurated on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 5 p.m.

The Turin-born master, born in 1965, rereads Giacomo Leopardi'sL'Infinito, giving life to an innovative and ambitious project, not only in terms of poetic and pictorial research, but also in its articulation: 30 works including oil paintings, mixed media on canvas and sculptures, a limited edition artist's book, a video work and two in-depth appointments.

The result of work involving pictorial and poetic art, and later translated into voice and music as well, Palumbo's artist book, titled Infinite, is published by Dadart Editions.

The master - who is inspired by the poetics of the metaphysical school of Giorgio de Chirico and Alberto Savinio, reinventing its foundations - has not only chosen canvas and brushes to tackle L'Infinito, then, but has called together poets Anna Marchitelli and Davide Rondoni (founder of the Center for Contemporary Poetry at the University of Bologna, as well as author of the Infinito 200 on the occasion of the bicentennial of the writing of The Infinite).

Leading the way was the very essence of the artist's book, one of the most personal forms of expression that sanctions the communion between painting and writing, artisans and creators, united to realize the fruit of a common passion. What came out of it is an object endowed with its own beauty, starting with the wrapping, a slipcase, made of paper, with refined materials, which then reveals, inside, the textual, visual and finally digital contents. The artist's book has a limited edition of 150 copies (of 120 numbered in Arabic numerals; XXV numbered in Roman numerals; 5 P.A.), is printed on fine paper and bound by hand, and consists of 120 pages. Inside is a DVD with performances by actors PierGiuseppe Francione and Ettore Nigro, the former accompanied by musician Guglielmo Pagnozzi, the latter by composer Mario Autore.

Conceived by Palumbo and Marchitelli and produced by Alchemia Pictures, with direction by Andrea Bifulco, the video work, titled L'uomoinfinito, stems from the desire to literally give life to a pictorial work of the cycle.

The man immersed in the sea, and caught in the act of reaching a destination ideally placed beyond the horizon, toward a starry and boundless sky, is interpreted by Mario Autore; the narrator who, symbolically inspired by a Greek chorus, speaks by making himself the interpreter of a collective consciousness, is interpreted by Anna Bocchino.

The video work will enrich, by visual and sound impact, the exhibition route.

The works of the entire cycle are accompanied by texts by art critic Luca Cantore D'Amore and the text L'uomoinfinito by Anna Marchitelli.

Leopardi Lives! is the title of the two events, curated by Anna Marchitelli, that will be held within the exhibition period.

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 4 p.m. in the Sala della Loggia, there will be Infinito, between word and image, with the presentation of the artist's book.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at 11 a.m., inside the spaces where the exhibition is on display, Leopardi, a story of life and poetry that still speaks to us (and saves us), an in-depth meeting on Giacomo Leopardi, the city of Naples and L'Infinito, will be held, reflecting on the relevance of a poetic and life story that still inspires artists and scholars. On the other hand, the Neapolitan city guards his papers, his inspiration, and his remains.

Speakers will include Fabiana Cacciapuoti, National Center for Leopardi Studies; Matteo Palumbo, honorary professor of Italian Literature at the University of Naples Federico II; and Donatella Trotta, journalist and writer.

The contents of the two meetings will flow into an issue of Quaderni Mnemes, produced and edited by Archeion Edizioni, to keep track of the interventions and discussions that emerge and keep the memory of what is happening alive.
