The new Polo Enologico di Eccellenza of the University of Naples Federico II, a facility that represents a unique excellence in the university scene in southern Italy, has been inaugurated in Avellino.

The Pole offers exclusive advantages for academic training.

Complete and integrated educational pathway: Students can now complete the entire course of study-from the bachelor's degree in Viticulture and Enology to the master's degree in Oenological Sciences to the doctorate-in one specialized location, a unique opportunity in the South.

Hands-on practical experience: The large experimental winery allows students to follow the entire winemaking process from start to finish.

State-of-the-artlaboratories: The new spaces include specialized laboratories for viticulture, enology, enological microbiology, genetics, instrumental and aroma analysis, equipped with the latest equipment.

Sensory training of excellence: The new wine sensory analysis room is a benchmark for professional tasting and research in the field.

The center is open to the public to whom it will also offer concrete initiatives such as, for example, wine tasting.

During theOpen Day, organized the day after the inauguration, citizens and high school students were able to discover the educational opportunities offered, with tours of the facility, enriched by the exhibition "Allegrezza. Tales ofWines" celebrating the local winemaking tradition.

The restoration of the former Royal Oenological School has recovered a fundamental historical heritage for the Irpinian territory. enriched by the exhibition "Allegrezza. Tales ofWines" celebrating the local winemaking tradition.

"With today's inauguration we have closed a circle. It's a project that started a long time ago, from an initial settlement in Avellino for a bachelor's degree in viticulture and enology. Later, when I was director at Agraria, as Federico II we decided to open the master's degree in Avellino as well," said Rector Matteo Lorito.

"This Enology Pole is the only one in Southern Italy where a boy, a girl, can study viticulture and enology for five years and do their doctorate in the same place, in a dedicated facility. It's a possibility they don't have at any other university," he stressed, highlighting the added value of studying in Avellino: "It means bringing the university to a provincial capital that doesn't have its own university, it means bringing the pole to an area that is traditionally and historically devoted to the wine sector."

The chancellor also outlined the future vision:"We want to create here a real ecosystem of innovation on the subject of oenology and viticulture, we must also have start-ups, we must have research."

"The new headquarters in Avellino is our oenological hub destined to be the flagship of knowledge on the subject of oenology in Campania and nationally," said Department of Agriculture Director Danilo Ercolini.

"It is a very new, beautiful facility with infrastructure readily usable by our research and teaching team and students. It is a facility that lends itself very well to our activities but also to be experienced by the citizenry, and this makes us even more pleased," Ercolini concluded.

"It is time to relaunch. We must now work on a studentate because it is important to bring young people here who come from other countries," saidProvincial President Buonopane, already looking ahead to the next challenges.

"The challenge of the future is training: we have to win and try to overcome the trials ahead through training. There is a need to take advantage of the excellence we have, and degree programs related to enology are very important," he added, stressing the strategic importance of the investment.

The restored complex houses offices for faculty and doctoral students, specialized research laboratories, and the microvinification center. The realization was possible thanks to the collaboration between Federico II University and the Province of Avellino, which believed in the project by providing the necessary funding.

The Avellino Pole represents an academic achievement and a strategic investment for the future of Italian enology, combining historical tradition, technological innovation and openness to the territory.
