Professor Stefano Russo is the new president of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics (CINI)

Professor Stefano Russo, full professor of information processing systems in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) and Coordinator of the Ph.D. Program in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, has been elected president of the National Interuniversity Consortium for Informatics (CINI).

CINI, supervised by the Ministry of University and Research, brings together 54 Italian public universities for the purpose of promoting, coordinating, and carrying out scientific, research, high consulting, and knowledge and technology transfer activities, both basic and applied, in the field of Computer Science and all closely related interdisciplinary fields, in accordance with the research programs and strategies of the national scientific communities of reference in computer science and computer engineering.

Vice President of the Consortium was elected Professor Fabio Gadducci of the University of Pisa, President of the National Group on Computer Science (GRIN). President and Vice President - figures of undoubted and recognized prestige role in national and international research concerning the fields of computer science and computer engineering - were elected on Sept. 11, 2025 internally by the CINI Assembly, made up of representatives of the 54 universities and the Ministers of University and Research, Business and Made in Italy, and Public Administration.

CINI's scientific and project activities are mainly developed through its 11 National Laboratories (LNs), Consortium structures articulated as networks of nodes activated in the universities, such as the Cybersecurity National Lab, the LN Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems, the LN Embedded Systems & Smart Manifacturing, the LN Data Science, and the LN Smart Cities and Communities.
