Returning to the educational offerings of the Federico II School of Medicine and Surgery is the School of Specialization in Otolaryngology, once again accredited by the Ministry of University and Research. There are 48 active Schools of Specialization in the medical-surgical area within the University of Federico II, and for 16 of them an increase in available places is planned. This milestone was also achieved thanks to a significant increase in the care activities of the Federico II University Hospital.

"An important achievement that is the result of intense teamwork put in by all the professionals of Otolaryngology. We have consolidated the care experience in oncology in the head-neck area, particularly in laser therapy of the larynx, and strengthened rhinologic surgery activities, with the outpatient clinic dedicated to biological therapy of nasal polyposis. In synergy with the UOC of Audiology, we have become the Regional Reference Center for cochlear implantology, flanking the Level 3 Center for the early management of deafness," explains Anna Rita Fetoni, full professor of Audiology and Director of the UOC of Otolaryngology and Audiology at AOU Federico II.

This milestone was also achieved thanks to the training network, which was expanded through the inclusion of some of Campania's main hospital centers.

"This milestone confirms how relevant is the link between care, teaching and research: indispensable elements that guide the Company's commitment to ensuring quality care and technological innovation and fostering the growth of new generations of specialists, helping to build a sustainable and competitive future for the health care of our territory," stresses Elvira Bianco, General Director of the AOU Federico II.

In addition to the return of Otolaryngology, there are also plans to expand the number of places available at 16 of the 48 Medical-Surgical Specialty Schools. A commitment that goes along with the one already carried out with the Bachelor of Medicine in Medicine and Surgery, which has also kicked off at the Benevento site, thanks to the collaboration between the two universities, with 174 new enrollees who will carry out internship activities at the headquarters of the Federico II Company.

A further goal also achieved thanks to the increase in care volumes.

"It is an achievement of great value that strengthens the presence of the Federiciana School of Medicine and Surgery in the panorama of specialist training in Campania. The reopening of the School of Specialization in Otolaryngology and the increase in available places for as many as 16 Schools of Specialization are the result of a fruitful synergy between research, innovation and care, which consolidates the School's role as a regional and national point of reference," adds Giovanni Esposito, President of the School of Medicine.
