Two seminars organized by APEF - Associazione Professori Emeriti Federiciani and UPE - Unione Professori Emeriti Università Italiane are scheduled for Dec. 4, 2025.

In the Arcoleo Lecture Hall at Corso Umberto I, 40, headquarters of the University of Federico, after greetings from Carlo Lauro, President of APEF/UPE, at 3 p.m., introduced by Federico II emeritus Luigi Nicolais, Luigi Campanella, Emeritus University of Rome La Sapienza, will speak on "Ethics in Research and University Teaching in the Time of Artificial Intelligence." The seminar aims to explore how to preserve the intellectual autonomy and ethical responsibility of the researcher and teacher in the digital age, questioning: what space remains for personal deliberation when algorithms suggest, select, and produce knowledge? How to educate students and researchers to consciously and critically use AI, which remains a tool and does not become a guide? How to ensure that technological innovation serves the freedom of thought rather than replacing it?

Next, at 4 p.m., Federico Mazzolani, Emeritus of the University Federico II, introduced by Raffaele Landolfo, Full Professor of the University Federico II will speak about "The Bridge over the Strait of Messina between Reality and Utopia" (**). The 3300 m single-span suspension bridge solution hypothesized for the crossing of the Strait of Messina and formalized in the 2011 Final Project has numerous objective criticalities that have never been resolved, but despite the numerous recommendations of the Scientific Committees of 2011 and 2024, this Final Project was approved by CIPESS with a resolution of August 6, 2025. On October 29, 2025, however, the Central Control Section of the Court of Auditors denied its legitimacy approval. Therefore, at present, the full and safe feasibility of the entire work is evidently called into question in many respects.

It is possible to attend the entire meeting on Teams, or follow Luigi Campanella 's event andFederico Mazzolani's event from YouTube.
