Two Federicians among 30 members of the Higher Health Council

The new Superior Council of Health has taken office in which, among the thirty new members for the three-year term 2025-2028, two Federici professors have been appointed. Renowned scientists, Professors Annamaria Colao and Giovanni Esposito will be part of the top technical advisory body upon appointment by Health Minister Orazio Schillaci.

At the inaugural meeting, Annamaria Colao was designated vice-chairman along with Alberto Mantovani,Professor Alberto Siracusano is the new chairman.

Giovanni Esposito, Full Professor in Diseases of the Cardiovascular System and Director of the UOC of Cardiology, Hemodynamics, and NICU of the Azienda Ospedaliera Federiciana, is President of the School of Medicine of the Federico II University. Professor Esposito has a leadership role in Italian interventional cardiology.

Annamaria Colao, Full Professor of Endocrinology at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, is head of the UNESCO Chair 'Education for Health and Sustainable Development.' She is among the Top Italian Scientists and Top Italian Woman Scientist.

Both hold leading roles in their respective specialties. The new appointment, a highly prestigious position, is further confirmation of the scientific institutional importance of the two professors.

In the new Consiglio Superiore di Sanità, the highest scientific-technical advisory body of the Ministry of Health, only five members of the previous composition have been reappointed. The 30 ministerial-appointed members are joined by heads of departments and dg of the Ministry, the president of the Superior Institute of Health, the directors of the Transplant Center, the Blood Center and public agencies in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, and the presidents of the health professions orders.

The Higher Health Council is called upon to provide opinions and technical support on all major health issues, from scientific research to the organization of services, thus helping to ensure the protection of public health and the improvement of the National Health Service.
