From computational modeling to virtual reality through spectroscopy and astrochemistry - Congress in honor of Professor Vincenzo Barone's 65th birthday

Vincenzo Barone is one of the pioneers of theoretical and computational chemistry in Italy: his scientific contributions include fundamental developments in Density Functional Theory, solvation modeling and computational spectroscopy, along with cutting-edge applications in the fields of materials chemistry, life sciences, nanoscience and cultural heritage.

His research interests have been accompanied by intense directive and organizational activity, often aimed at promoting the role of scientific disciplines in Italy.

From student to full professor of Physical Chemistry, Vincenzo Barone maintained strong ties with the University of Frederick even after his transfer to the Scuola Normale, hence the special symbolic value of the honorary doctorate.

Barone, president of the Italian Chemical Society - SCI until 2013, is a member of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Sciences - IAQMS and the European Academy of Sciences, a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei.

Gaetano Manfredi, Rector of the University of Naples Federico II, Piero Salatino, President of the Federico II School of Polytechnics and Basic Sciences, Rosa Lanzetta, Director of the Department of Chemical Sciences at the Federico II University, and Angela Lombardi, Coordinator of the Federico II Doctoral Program in Chemical Sciences, will introduce the honorary doctorate awarding ceremony. Salvatore Califano, Academician of the Lincei, will give the Laudatio Academica followed by a Lectio Magistralis by Vincenzo Barone.
