Proofreader and editor. Seminar series closes
The cycle of seminars organized as part of the advanced course in Proofreader and Editor, coordinated by Chiara Renda with the collaboration of Marisa Squillante, has concluded.
The course aims to train operators and professionals in the publishing field through a solid cultural qualification and an in-depth approach to the theoretical and technical/practical aspects of writing. It is aimed at graduates who wish to acquire technical notions and adequate theoretical foundations to competently deal with one of the professions most in demand in the modern publishing world.
The training course was inaugurated on Thursday, Feb. 27, with a lecture by Fabrizio Coscia and Dalia Oggero. Dalia Oggero, a prominent figure in the publishing world as Einaudi 's editor for Italian fiction and founder, with Alessandro Baricco, Antonella Parigi, Marco San Pietro and Alberto Jona, of the Holden school. Dalia Oggero was joined in the lecture by Fabrizio Coscia, lecturer, theater critic and columnist for the newspaper "Il Mattino," who is a key element of the course by being actively present in many lectures. Another important Editor who lectured was Benedetta Centovalli, also a literary agent and specialist in contemporary fiction, who has been training in publishing for many years at various universities. Editor and in-house editor for several publishing houses and currently a freelance editor is Gaia Rispoli, who in her two workshop-type lectures illustrated the types of editorial processing, proofreading of apparatus and collateral materials, from cover pages to final layouts.
There was no shortage of big names in journalism such as Titti Marrone, who teaches History and Techniques of Journalism at theSuor Orsola Benincasa University in Naples and is the author of several successful books; Titta Fiore, a graduate in Classical Literature from the Federico II University, former Editor-in-Chief and head of the Culture and Entertainment editorial offices of "Il Mattino"and President of the Campania Region Film Commission. A freelance journalist since 1991 and columnist for national newspapers and periodicals is also Diego Guida, legal representative of Guida Editori, the oldest publishing house in Naples founded in 1920, who explained to the learners the publisher's point of view. During the course so far there have also been lecturers from the Federico II such as Giancarmine Bongo, professor of German Language and Linguistics at the Department of Humanistic Studies (DSU), Paolo Greco, professor of General Linguistics at DSU. Also from the DSU were professors who have been concerned with the roots and modes of transmission of literary works, creating a bridge between ancient and modern, such as Concetta Longobardi professor of Latin Language and Literature and Rossana Valenti formerly a full professor of the same subject; Sara Fascione, who is currently Chargée de cours at the Département de Sciences de l'Antiquité de l'Université de Liège, is also of Frederician origin and has taught Latin Language and Literature in the DSU. Luigi Ferrara, professor of administrative law in the Department of Law, explained the characteristic features and recent reforms of copyright law. As can be seen from this very quick overview, we have tried to provide learners with a well-rounded picture of the publishing world, and we will continue in this way in future lectures.
The course, after Luigi Ferrara 's lecture given on June 26 will resume on September 18, 2025 with Maria Francesca Cozzolino's lecture.
