International cooperation: Tongji University at C.I.R.AM. An academic bridge between Naples and Shanghai

On July 10, 2025, in the splendid setting of the historical library of the Department of Engineering in Piazzale Tecchio, the C.I.R.AM. - Interdepartmental Center for Environmental Research of the University of Naples Federico II enthusiastically welcomed a delegation from Tongji University in Shanghai, among the most prestigious academic institutions in China.

The meeting, part of the international scientific cooperation initiatives promoted by C.I.R.AM., involved three professors - Professors Yongmei Li, Lin Wang and Qiunan Sun - and 27 students, for a total of 30 participants, who were joined by Chinese colleagues and students from the University of Macau, making the day even richer in perspectives and cross-cultural exchange. Officially opening the proceedings was Professor Giulia Guerriero, director of C.I.R.AM., who had just returned from an academic mission to Egypt as a visiting professor. In her welcome address, she emphasized the value of international cooperation as a strategic lever for the growth of research and education, setting the stage for a day of scientific and human exchange. Professor Yongmei Li then spoke, introducing Tongji University and, in particular, the teaching and research activities of the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, illustrating shared research trajectories. Next, Professor Domenico Pirozzi, representing C.I.R.AM., took the floor and presented the main lines of research developed by the Center, highlighting numerous similarities with the activities of Tongji University and emphasizing the strong potential for future synergies.

The initiative represented not only a moment of scientific and academic insight, but also a concrete opportunity to strengthen ties between the two universities. In fact, an international agreement for academic collaboration between the University of Naples Federico II and Tongji University is being finalized.
The day confirmed C.I.R.AM.'s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary and sustainable research and strengthening scientific dialogue with international partners, consistent with the Federico II University's global mission.
