Professor Ciro Esposito has been elected president of the Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery (SICP). Full Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Naples Federico II and Director of the UOC - Complex Operative Unit of Pediatric Surgery at the Federico II University Hospital, the professor received the appointment as part of the Congress of the Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery, in the presence of more than 500 pediatric surgeons.

"I am honored," says Professor Esposito, and continues, "to have been elected President of the Italian Society of Pediatric Surgery, first and foremost because I was voted in by the totality of the Italian pediatric surgeons in attendance, but above all because of the support I received from young people. My task as President of SICP will be to involve young Italian pediatric surgeons in all the innovative activities of the Society such as the development of Robotic Surgery, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality that represent the present and the future of Pediatric Surgery. The integrated multimedia 3D HD 4K ICG multimedia operating rooms of the Pediatric Surgery of the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Federico II, are the most modern Pediatric Surgery operating rooms currently existing in Italy."

The UOC of Pediatric Surgery at Policlinico Federico II, is a European Reference Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery and Pediatric Robotics and the only Reference Center in the Campania Region for Pediatric Laparoscopy and Robotics.

Of the approximately 1,500 surgeries performed each year at the operating rooms of the Federico II Polyclinic's pediatric surgery center, about 50 percent of these are performed with minimally invasive and robotic techniques, and thanks to these advanced technologies, the extra-regional migration of pediatric patients from Campania requiring surgery has been reduced. In recent years, in a reversal of the trend, there have been 50, patients arriving each year from other regions or abroad to undergo surgery at the Federico II Hospital.
