For his invaluable contribution to the development of community museology in Brazil
On August 23 and 24, 2026, the Second Symposium “Paulo Freire and Community Museology” was held in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Rector’s Office of the Universidade Estadual de São Paulo (UNESP), in collaboration with the Associação Brasileira de Ecomuseus e Museus Comunitários (ABREMC) and the University of Naples Federico II—Department of Humanities.
The event, focused on integrated approaches to Community Museology and Popular Education, opened with institutional remarks—delivered via videoconference—by Rector Andrea Mazzucchi, Professor Raul Borges Guimarães, UNESP’s Vice Rector for Continuing Education and Culture, Professor Paulo Martinez, a faculty member at UNESP, and local officials.
On this occasion, Professor Paolo Vittoria, author of the keynote lecture dedicated to Gabriela Mistral and Paulo Freire, was awarded the title of Honorary Member of ABREMC, with the following citation: “This distinction is awarded in recognition of his invaluable contribution, significant dedication, and continuous support for ABREMC’s initiatives that strengthen and promote the development of community museology in Brazil.”
The proceedings concluded with a proposal for an international agreement among the participating universities and the idea of holding the next edition of the Colloquium in Naples.
