FIS call for proposals, Tigem faculty member from Frederick among winners

Antonella De Matteis, a professor at the University Federico II and head of the research group in cell biology and disease mechanisms at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (Tigem) in Pozzuoli, is among the five Telethon researchers whose project was selected within the Life Sciences in the first call for the Italian Fund for Science (Fis), launched in 2021 by the Ministry of University and Research with an allocation of 50 million euros.

Nearly 2,000 research projects participated in the selection for the first call. For life sciences, 17 projects submitted by researchers from various Italian hospitals, research centers and universities were awarded.

Along with Professor De Matteis, among those affiliated with Telethon Foundation research institutes: Luigi Naldin, professor at San Raffaele Vita-Salute University and director of the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-Tiget) in Milan; Mario Squadrito, researcher at San Raffaele Hospital and project leader in the SR-Tiget Cancer Targeted Gene Therapy Research Unit; Luca Scorrano, professor at the University of Padua; and Francesca Lavatelli, researcher at the University of Pavia.
