First academic year of Bachelor's degree in "Biology for One-Health" kicks off

Unique nationwide, it provides students with an educational pathway in the fields of biology following the modern "One-Health" approach. It isthe Bachelor's degree in "Biology for One-Health," coordinated by Professor Giulia Maisto of the Federician Department of Biology, which kicked off this year. It is an English-language, programmed-numbered course of study that saw 25 matriculate in this first edition.

The graduate in "Biology for One-Health," through the enhancement of theoretical and practical knowledge from different disciplines, ensures the application of the One-Health model in preventing the incidence of health risks and solving problems that threaten the well-being and health of humans and ecosystems. The application of such an approach is necessary at a time in history when excessive anthropization has caused climate change, land consumption, global displacement of people, and increasingly frequent contact with animals, promoting the spread of diseases that pose serious threats to the health and well-being of humans and the quality of ecosystems on a global scale.

The Bachelor's degree in "Biology for One-Health" includes 17 mandatory and 2 student-choice teaching activities. Numerous hours are devoted to laboratory and field activities that will contribute to the enrichment of theoretical knowledge with major investigative techniques.

The graduate in "Biology for One-Health" can practice as a junior biologist, with technical-executive roles in biochemical and environmental control laboratories, after passing the state exam (sect. B of the register, Presidential Decree No. 328/01).
