Director Paolo Sorrentino to receive honorary degree in modern philology

Big celebration at the Federico II. The secular Athenaeum, among the oldest in the world, celebrates its 791th anniversary by opening its doors to the city, welcoming to its premises, among knowledge and history, those who would like to share in this special day.

Many events are scheduled to be held on the morning of tomorrow, Friday, June 5, on the initiative of the 26 Departments of the Federico II located throughout the city and in Portici, in the magnificent Reggia.

All initiatives are free admission.

In the afternoon, the festivities are all concentrated in the historic center, where the University's historic headquarters are located.

At 3 p.m. in the Pessina Lecture Hall (on Corso Umberto I), prizes will be awarded to deserving Federico II students.

At 4:30 p.m. in the historicAula magna, a ceremony will be held to award an honorary degree in Modern Philology to director Paolo Sorrentino (admission is subject to availability). A giant screen will also be set up in the atrium of the University's main campus to stream the event, which will be live on www.dol.unina.it/mediateca.jsp.

At 6:30 p.m. on the steps of the Minerva, the university's polyphonic choir will dedicate a musical salute to the 'newly graduated'.

At 8 p.m. the celebration will move to Piazza del Gesù with a concert by Peppe Servillo and the Solis and a speech by Sorrentino, on stage with Rector Manfredi and Pro-rector Arturo De Vivo, who will answer questions from four of the deserving students honored by Federico II.

The events will be followed by F2 Radio Lab, the university's radio station. There will also be a special philatelic cancellation.

On Saturday, June 6, the festivities will conclude at Arenile di Bagnoli: a number of bands from the university community will perform at the Foja concert. The concert will be held in an area completely reserved for Federico II students, which can be accessed by downloading a coupon from segrepass.
