Torrid summer in an unspecified Neapolitan suburb. An apathetic and filthy land, annihilated by a will to power and industrial development that knows no ties or needs. Here two very young siblings, Donata and Mimmo, live a small and almost unconscious existence, unknown to adults. Crushed by indifference on an eternal grayness, the bodies seem dull. No passion burns. Yet something happens. Donata breaks the gray picture of her own adolescence simply by looking at herself. The inadequacy of her small form, of that breast that never blossomed and was so much wanted, places something that was previously absent at center stage: desire. The priceless source of events is desire, which explodes with the arrival of Elijah, a mysterious man for whom Donata broods a growing passion. Bright.
Thus triggered, the mechanics of desire can no longer be stopped. The expectations of the characters, now visible, will travel on their own, mingling with each other and intimating to each other to do what they want. Gently, overbearingly.
A neorealist fairy tale. A story in which, due to an excess of reality, the fairy tale inevitably explodes. Built on a series of attempts, The Cow tells of desire and its fragile, radical existence outside the logic of wealth and power. A story of love and animals whose bodies, standing in the world, are ready for plunder.
