Congolese physician Denis Mukwege to receive honorary degree
To be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the University Complex in Scampia, the conferment of an honorary degree in 'Management of Social Policies and Services' to Denis Mukwege, Congolese physician and activist.
Introducing Denis Mukwege's merits will be speeches by Matteo Lorito, Rector of the University of Naples Federico II, and Vittorio Amato, Director of the Federico II Department of Political Science.
Paola De Vivo, Coordinator of the Master's Degree Course in 'Management of Social Policies and Services', will give the Laudatio Academica.
This will be followed by a Lectio Magistralis by Dr. Denis Mukwege and the conferral of the Degree.
Access to the Aula Magna will be by invitation only. Kind confirmation of attendance is requested by 12:00 noon on November 28, 2022 after booking at the link.
It will be possible to follow the ceremony via streaming.
Dr. Denis Mukwege has dedicated his life for years to the care of women in Congo and with this purpose he founded Panzi Hospital in Bukavu to treat thousands of women victims of rape, used as a weapon of war. For his work and for bringing the brutal systematic violence against women to international public attention, he has received several awards, including in 2014 from the European Parliament the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought and in 2018 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
