Reimund Neugebauer to receive honorary Ph.D. in Manufacturing Technology and Systemsa
On Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., in thehistoric Aula Magna of the Federico II University, Corso Umberto I, 40, in Naples, the ceremony of conferring the Honorary Doctorate in Manufacturing Technologies and Systems to Professor Reimund Neugebauer will be held.
Gaetano Manfredi, Rector of the University of Frederick, Fabio Bozza, Coordinator of the Doctoral School in Industrial Engineering, and Luigi Carrino, of the Doctoral School in Production Technologies and Systems, will introduce. Luigi Nicolais, President of the CNR - National Research Council and Professor Emeritus of the Federico II, will give the Laudatio Academica. This will be followed by Reimund Neugebauer, Engineer, President Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, who will give his Lectio Magistralis.
Reimund Neugebauer graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, where he earned doctorates in Engineering (1984) and Technical Sciences (1989). In 1990, he began his graduate career at the same university.
In 1994, he was appointed Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology (IWU), Chemnitz, Germany, holding this position until October 2012.
In 1995, he became Director of the Department for Machine Tools and Forming Technology at Chemnitz Technical University while maintaining the role of Director of Fraunhofer IWU.
From 2003 to 2006, he was Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Chemnitz Technical University; in 2005, he was appointed Fellow of the International Academy of Production Engineering CIRP, Paris, France; from 2010 to 2011, he was President of the German Academic Society for Production Engineering - WPG.
Since October 2012, he has been President of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, the largest public applied research organization in Germany with 66 Institutes and 24,000 employees.
