At Palazzo Giustiniani the 46th edition of the "Guido Dorso" award

The "Guido Dorso" awards, promoted by the association of the same name chaired by Nicola Squitieri, will be presented at the Senate on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at 4 p.m. in the Sala Zuccari of Palazzo Giustiniani. The initiative - sponsored by the Senate of the Republic, the National Research Council and the Federico II University - has, since 1970, contextually signaled young scholars from the South and personalities from the institutional, economic, scientific and cultural worlds who "have contributed with their activities to support the needs of development and progress of the South."

Recipients this year of the various sections of the 46th edition are: Giovanni Amoroso, president of the Constitutional Court (institutions); Rita Mastrullo, former pro-rector of the Federico II University (universities) ; Lucio D'Alessandro, rector of the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples (culture); Fabio Martinelli, director of the Institute of High Performance Computing and Networks (ICAR) of the CNR in Rende (Cs) - (research); Caterina Meglio, managing director of Materias - Naples (entrepreneurship); Associazione Ra.Gi. onlus of Catanzaro, chaired by Elena Sodano (Third Sector).

Recipient of the dissertation section Michele Costagliola Di Fiore for her master's thesis "Heterogeneity of entrepreneurial teams and impact on startup performance. An empirical analysis in Campania," presented at the Parthenope University of Naples.

The Representative Plaque of the President of the Republic, Mattarella, intended for a scientific, economic and cultural institution of southern Italy, was awarded to the Zoological Station "Anton Dohrn" of Naples, chaired by Roberto Bassi. Recipients of the International Section, dedicated to the Mediterranean, were the Istituto Affari Internazionali chaired by Michele Valensise and The International Propeller Clubs chaired by Umberto Masucci, who picked up the award at an event, a prologue to the 46th edition of the Dorso, held in Naples in early July.

The judging committee consists of: Orazio Abbamonte, president of the Fondazione Banco di Napoli; Andrea Lenzi, president of the CNR; Francesco Saverio Coppola, secretary general of the Dorso Association; Matteo Lorito, rector of the Federico II University; Luigi Sbarra, undersecretary for policies for the South; and Nicola Squitieri, president of the Dorso Association. The roll of honor of Dorso Prize winners includes some of the most influential figures in the world of institutions, research, economics and culture: from Giovanni Leone to Giorgio Napolitano; from Renato Dulbecco to Franco Modigliani; from Antonio D'Amato to Dominick Salvatore; from Pasquale Saraceno to Francesco Paolo Casavola; from Francesco Rosi to Riccardo Muti.

The Dorso Prize consists of an artistic bronze work created exclusively by internationally renowned sculptor Giuseppe Pirozzi, the 1980 recipient of the award.
