"A World of Hoaxes."

un

Fake news, scientific truths and new looks at the future. Once again this month, the column 'A World of Hoaxes' is back on time, with a new range of contributions that expose false myths and offer rigorous but accessible scientific insights, always with an eye on innovation and sustainability.

Opening the July 2025 issue is 'Veterinary Pharmacovigilance: why does it matter?' by Ines Balestrino, PhD student in Veterinary Science, Internal Medicine area, and Antonio Carrella, research fellow at the Campania Veterinary Pharmacovigilance Center. When a veterinary drug is put on the market, it has already been tested for efficacy and safety. However, some side effects may not emerge until the drug is used on a large scale.
This is followed by Ludovico Dipineto 's contribution 'Below the Threshold of the Visible: the Risk of Campylobacte', When people talk about foodborne infections or foodborne diseases, they often immediately think of bacteria such as Salmonella or Escherichia coli. Another microorganism of great importance, Campylobacter, is still little known to the public, although it is well studied and recognized by the scientific community as one of the main causes of gastroenteritis in the world.

Next, by Francesco Pappone, DISCI Master's graduate - Veterinary Surgeon, Manager ASL Napoli 1 Centro, with
'In Naples there is no more tripe for cats', a reflection on why due to the carelessness and dishonesty of some producers, in Naples o' pears, o' musso and a' tripp, typical foods of our tradition, are no longer processed.

The issue closes with an interesting insight by Stefania Porraro, a DISCI Master's degree graduate in Institutional and Business Communication Sciences - Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Southern Italy entitled 'Ready to taste the future?' An interesting reflection on how the challenge of innovation in food choices is won by involving people, and here communication plays a crucial role.

An issue that combines science, communication and critical thinking. Because the best way to fight hoaxes is to know them up close.

Contributions will be posted on the Department's official social profiles (Facebook and Instagram)in the coming weeks.

July 2025 contributions.
