"In Memory of a Friend. Graduation awards to deserving college students

The event-competition "In memory of a friend" involving the awarding of degree prizes to deserving undergraduate students and named after Professor Antonio Picariello is now in its 5th edition.

The competition is organized by CINI (National Interuniversity Consortium for Computer Science) in memory of friend and colleague Antonio Picariello, professor of Information Processing Systems and Coordinator of the undergraduate and master's degree programs in Computer Engineering at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Federico II University.

Initiative and funds, however, come from the Solidarity Center of Avellino "Giovanni e Massimo" Odv and thanks also to the valuable contribution of Banco Alimentare Campania Onlus. Throughout his life, Professor Picariello has been both a fervent Deacon committed to the Diocese of Avellino and a tireless pillar of the area Solidarity Center, sharing his life and energies between his family, his passion for teaching and his strong commitment to social work in support of the poorest and most needy.

The new call for applications for the 2025 edition (it can be viewed in its entirety on the CINI portal) is reserved for recent graduates (Bachelor's degree awarded on or after Nov. 25, 2024 and by the call's deadline, 11/30/25) from the following universities in the Campania Region and respective courses of study:
Federico II University: Computer Science (L-31), Computer Engineering (L-8);
University Parthenope: Computer Science/Applied Informatics (L-8);
University of Sannio: Computer Engineering (L-8);
University of Salerno: Computer Science (L-31), Computer Engineering (L-8);
L. Vanvitelli University: L-8.

Applicants are also required to fully meet and comply with the following requirements: to have done a thesis on research topics related to Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Multimedia, with a focus on the methodological and technological aspects related to these topics; enrollment in a Master's degree program in Computer Engineering or Computer Science at any University in the Campania Region; an ISEE of the participant's household, cumulated with the indicator of the economic situation abroad, that does not exceed the threshold of € 25,500.

Applications for participation should be duly signed and sent to the CINI Secretariat at the PEC address consorzio.cini@legalmail.it and ciniroma@consorzio-cini.it, no later than 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

The subject line of the PEC should read "Notice of competition for Degree Awards for deserving students "Prof. Antonio Picariello," funded by the Avellino Solidarity Center Association "Giovanni e Massimo" ODV."

In the applications, to be drawn up on plain paper according to the outline in Attachment 1 and duly signed, applicants must indicate, under penalty of exclusion, their personal details and that they meet the conditions set out in the Notice: possession of a Bachelor's degree (obtained within the timeframe indicated above); regular enrollment in a Master's degree (in Computer Science or Computer Engineering); compliance with the ISEE limit indicated in the Notice. Finally, applicants must attach to the application a signed CV, copy of a personal ID and CF, ISEE statement for the year 2025, certificate of enrollment in the Master's degree, and a copy of the thesis. The latter must be in pdf format and less than 20 Mb in size.
