'DONALD Much more than legendary story of a Golden Man'
At the Bellini Theater on stage October 21-26, 2025 'DONALD Storia molto più che leggendaria di un Golden Man' by and with Stefano Massini.
A man? Or a god? Or a demigod? In 2015 Donald J. Trump announced his entry into the political arena forcing the press to roll their eyes, to contemplate him as he descended on an escalator to the notes of an overwhelming hymn: the apotheosis of an extra-human called upon to save multitudes of applauding earthlings. After the successes in theaters around the world with "Lehman Trilogy" and "Manhattan Project," Stefano Massini returns to an American epic this time focusing on the irresistible rise of the New York billionaire, up to precisely his first election to the White House. Here then takes shape on stage the incredible genesis of a leader who has projected himself where no one else has, rewriting the rules of economics, finance, politics and even civilization.
At only forty years old, he was already watching over the human assemblage from the height of a 3,000-square-foot penthouse overlooking Manhattan from where he planned his reign as absolute monarch, symbol and embodiment of power. In a relentless succession of twists and turns, decisive encounters and a dizzying roller coaster between triumphs and bankruptcies, Massini traces the rocambolic existential gymkhana of a man who has transformed himself into a commercial brand, an icon, a brand, a testimonial of his own success and a sponsor of his own ascent, always pushing the envelope and beyond the lawful, in a tireless challenge that does not admit the hypothesis of surrender but always and only the thrill of revival. It then turns out that Donald is at bottom the personification of our time, whose chaos between reality and reality, fake and fiction, person and character, is perfectly expressed. The result is a revelatory and in many ways chilling tale, which confirms the theater in its age-old mission as a critical eye on contemporaneity, whose shadows and abysses it can grasp with the disarming simplicity of a necessary narrative.
