The International Study Day "Women and Archaeology in Europe in the 20th Century. The Role of Women in the Research and Enhancement of Archaeological Heritage" represents an important opportunity to explore the contribution of women to the history of the archaeological discipline, bringing to light figures and paths that have long remained in the shadows. The initiative acquires particular importance thanks to the participation of scholars from different academic backgrounds, both Italian and foreign.

The conference, curated by Bianca Ferrara, will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., at theFormer Wooden Catalogues Hall, Complex of San Pietro Martire (Via Porta di Massa, 1). It will also be possible to follow the event online through the Microsoft Teams platform.

After the Institutional Greetings by Andrea Mazzucchi and Rosalba Di Meglio, the first session of the Conference, coordinated by Antonella Tomeo, will feature talks by Giovanna Greco, Flavia Frisone, Margarita Díaz-Andreu, María José Berlanga Palomo, Fedra A. Pizzato and Sophie Hay. This will be followed by papers by Bianca Ferrara, Rachele Cava, Daniela Capece and Teresa Laudonia.

The contributions will offer an articulated picture of women's experiences that, among archaeology, papyrology and epigraphy, have developed in a context traditionally dominated by male figures, highlighting professional paths, critical approaches and innovative methodologies introduced by female scholars.
