Between education, community, passion and fun, the 2026 edition of FRU comes to a close
F2 Radio Lab wins two out of three in Festival challenges: for voice and format
The new edition of the FRU, Festival of University Radio, which saw the participation of more than two hundred students from all over Italy, united by their passion for radio, ended successfully at the Federico II.
The FRU, among the most relevant national events dedicated to the world of university radio, included in the program of events for the 802 years of the Neapolitan University, was also an opportunity to celebrate 20 years since the birth of F2 RadioLab, the Federico II radio laboratory, and 20 years of RadUni, the Association of University Radio Operators, creator of the Festival.
And as a birthday present, F2RadioLab won two challenges out of three scheduled in the program, winning an award that rewards the talent, preparation and enthusiasm of the 'team,' confirming the quality of the work done and the growth of the Federiciano team.
The Speaker challenge, best voice, was won by Chiara Malvano (Department of Law), from F2RadioLab.
First prize ex aequo for best radio format went to "Un sorso di te - Atlante delle emozioni" by Annamaria Biancardi(Department of Humanities), Fabio Gaudiosi (Department of Law) and Rita Perrotta (Department of Social Sciences)of F2RadioLab and to "Lo Spogliatoio" Andrea Delcuratolo, Alessandro Celidoni, Francesco Cecere of Radio Sapienza.
First prize for best podcast went to "Balbetto con disinvoltura," by Michele Anesi of Sanbaradio, the university radio station of Trento and Bolzano.
The event, produced by the Federico II in the F2Cultura program, with the support of Coinor, the University Center for the Coordination of Special Projects and Organizational Innovation, enjoys the Patronage of Rai Campania and Rai Radio, Media Partners are Rai Radio Tutta Italiana and Rai Radio Napoli Live, the Patronage of the City of Naples and the Campania Region.
The FRU, which this year took place June 4-6 in the impressive Frederick's complex of San Marcellino, is a living laboratory, a space where students experience radio in the field, hone technical and creative skills, dialogue with industry professionals and build relationships destined to last. At the center, always, are the values of inclusion and participation. And lots of fun.
The 2026 edition has adopted as its theme 'University Radio. The long tradition of the future', declined through a series of quality thematic panels, which covered topics ranging from music to cinema, art to multimedia communication. The program, reception and location received wide acclaim from participants.
Among the most significant moments were the live broadcasts made jointly by all the university radio stations present, a testament to the strength of the network that FRU helps build and consolidate each year.
Many were the speeches, all very much appreciated, from Adriana Cristiano's to Riccardo Cavaliere's Giovanni Covone's Donato Giovannelli's Tony Esposito's Lorenzo Ruggiero's Enrico Manzo's Danilo De Biasio's Susanna Tartaro'sGianfrancoZinzilli's Dario Sansone's, to mention just a few.
The magic of RAI radio drama. "The War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells in Orson Welles' version, starring Renato De Rienzo, Patrizia Di Martino, Ottavio Costa, Cristian Izzo, Luciano Nozzolillo and the young actors of "Teatro Madrearte" and "Il Luogo in Buio," and the soundtrack by Franco Capuano, especially captivated all the students, and the DJ set by Anemoia made them all dance in the cloister of San Marcellino.
During the FRU, prizes were also awarded in the national competition for college radio stations organized by the National Order of Journalists to enhance the quality of radio information in academia and promote the culture of professional responsibility. The first prize was won by the podcast"Eterni - The PFAS case in Veneto" by Fuori Aula Network of the University of Verona, by Margherita Dalla Vecchia together with Lavinia Frattini. Second prize went to the podcast "Objectors of Unconsciousness" by Radio Sapienza, by Kiria Zunica, Noemi Pegorin, Chiara Mangialomini and Domenico Voddo.
