Giuseppe Corrente received his law degree on the threshold of 93 years of age, discussing in the Pessina Lecture Hall a thesis in Roman Law on 'Legal Aspects of the Roman Family' before the committee chaired by Law Department Director Carla Masi Doria.

Dr. Corrente had enrolled in the then Faculty of Law of the University of Naples in his early twenties in the early 1950s, in a city that still bore the marks of the recent bombings. Although life's events led him down a different path, working for a long time in school administration, he never gave up his dream of completing his chosen studies, which he never abandoned or interrupted. More than seventy years later, a mind as lively as he was then, allowing him to quote entire Latin passages from Justinian's Digesta from memory, he proudly clutched his thesis in his hands as Professor Masi Doria proclaimed him a doctor of jurisprudence, becoming the oldest student to graduate from the University of Frederick.

The supervisor, Alessandro Manni, introduced the candidate, emphasizing his perseverance and dedication in completing his studies, animated by a deep interest in law and, in particular, in the legal experience of ancient Rome, which he had the opportunity to learn from great masters of our Athenaeum, such as Antonio Guarino, and which over time he nurtured by reading the classics of Latin literature. His story represents not only a record for the candidate's age, but above all an example of commitment and determination in pursuing life goals , and is a clear example of the care with which the Law Department and the Athenaeum accompany each student to the finish line, taking care of the needs and different situations of each one.
