Nicola Bianco is the new Vice Rector of the Federico II University

Nicola Bianco, a full professor of Industrial Technical Physics and director of the Department of Industrial Engineering serving his second term, is the new Vice Rector of the University of Naples Federico II.
He will work alongside the new rector, Andrea Mazzucchi, in leading the university during the six-year term from 2026 to 2032.

Federico II is the university where I received my education and where my entire academic career has unfolded, and being able to put my experience to work for the entire university today is a great privilege for me , ” said Vice Rector Nicola Bianco. “I thank Rector Andrea Mazzucchi for the trust he has placed in me. I will work alongside him and with the entire Federico II community, in a spirit of service, listening, and collaboration, to help make Federico II an increasingly cohesive, open institution capable of leveraging the extraordinary expertise it possesses. A great public university must play a leading role in the cultural, social, and economic growth of its region: not only by educating our young people, but also by helping to create the conditions here that allow them to envision and build their own future.”

Professor Nicola Bianco, born in 1971, graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering in 1995 from Federico II University, where he subsequently pursued his scientific, teaching, and institutional career.
Over the years, he has held numerous positions. He served as Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering for Energy and the Environment, Chair of the first Joint Faculty-Student Committee of the Department of Industrial Engineering, Coordinator of Academic Affairs for the Department, and the university’s representative for the Engineering Orientation and Tutoring Project (Ingegneria.POT). He has devoted particular attention to the quality of education, academic advising, tutoring, and improving students’ university experience.

His scientific work, documented by more than 300 publications, focuses on heat transfer, thermo-fluid dynamics, building energy efficiency, fire safety, and renewable energy systems, with a particular focus on solar energy and the challenges of the energy transition, sustainability, combating climate change, and addressing energy poverty.

He is a member of the Executive Board of the Italian Union of Thermofluid Dynamics (UIT) and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of *Case Studies in Thermal Engineering*, an international scientific journal published by Elsevier. He also contributes to editorial and scientific activities for international journals and series in the fields of energy and thermofluid dynamics.

During his two terms as head of the Department of Industrial Engineering—one of the largest departments at Federico II in terms of size and the scope of its educational and research activities—he consolidated his expertise in the areas of planning, teaching quality, research development, and the promotion of the various components of the university community.
